When you play your stuff for the first time, it's definitely a very vulnerable moment. Uh especially when you play it out live on a big system, it's like it's being played underneath a magnifying glass. I think with every big song I've had, you'll play it for a while and people are you can't really tell if they end of it, if they love it. It's very rare to have something like, oh my god, you first play, everybody knows all the lyrics and they're singing it back. And sometimes that happens, but that's really rare. Eventually, you have to just trust your gut instincts and you you play it, you revise it, you keep making it better and better. Open. Hidden in the dark. Open.
Or that it'll break apart. Open. Hey, it's Morgan Page. Welcome to my Young Hollywood backstage diary. We're just about to start my event here at the Sono Studio. So, let's take a look around, check it out. With original stuff, it's months and months of work. It's pen and paper, writing lyrics with other vocalists and um you know, I'm producing, I'm songwriting, I'm mixing, I'm engineering, I'm pre-mastering. I'm doing a lot of different uh elements, wearing a lot of different hats. So, it's a lot of work and you hear the song too many times, you have to take a break and incubate yourself from it for a little bit. So, it's a long process. Here's where we're doing the Q&A.
They're going to grill me on all kinds of questions about the album. We're going to take questions from the audience. Uh we have a really cool moderator coming in who's going to ask me all kinds of questions. We're going to get deep into the album process and into the whole creative state and the making of DC to Light. My first show I ever played in college that was at Cambridge, Massachusetts, at Phoenix Landing. So, it was the first time I ever heard actually like a kick drum through a fully amplified system with subs. I didn't even recognize my own music. So, I plugged uh this sampler MPC 2000 into the main system. I had all live gear. It wasn't even a DJ event.
Uh it was a DJ night, so I technically it was like a live PA that I did, but it was this little Irish pub that I had been kicked out of before for underage drinking. That was it. That was like just this amazing feeling. You just feel it in your blood and you want to do more of it. Everybody will be firmly planted into these uh marshmallow bean bags. And it's very cool, very laid-back way to listen to the record and we've never done a listening party like this before. So, it's a bit of listening, a little bit of questions, and some beer and fun. So, here is the cover. It took forever to get the right image and we really wanted to show uh the solar panels.
And I told them, we got to have that somewhere in the picture. We originally were going to do a photo shoot at Ivanpah, which is the largest solar plant in the world. And that's because the whole record was made with solar power. So, DC to Light means full frequency. The whole studio and my car, they're all powered from the sun. So, I made music from the sun and that's really like the central theme of the whole record. Hey guys, it's Morgan Page. Hopefully you enjoyed my listening party. We had a great time here with Young Hollywood backstage Diaries and I'll see you soon.
