Welcome to Young Hollywood.com. What's up, guys? I'm Tatyana Dyana. We're hanging out with Michael Kopon in his studio. So, you've got a lot going on right now, but before I even get into it, I have to let people know, if you didn't recognize this beautiful face, it's the Blue Power Ranger. So, tell us what's going on in your world right now. I know you have a single out and you're working on some music.
Yeah, um, I've been working on music uh, really, really hardcore for the past two years. Um, I actually put acting aside for the
So, how would you describe your sound of music to people who've not heard your sound before?
It's kind of like a fusion between eclectic rock, uh, house, little fusion of hip hop, um, little soul R&B in the, in the vocals as well. I mean, I have so many influences growing up from like Al Green to Music Soulchild, Maxwell, to, you know, Linkin Park, Coldplay, and then Infected Mushroom, Swedish House Mafia, and Deadmau5 on the electro side. So I kind of just morph them all together.
So, tell me about your single, let's get nasty. Is it as nasty as it sounds?
No, no. It it it's a funny title and uh, if people don't listen to the song, it's it's actually supposed to be more like, let's let's let's have fun, let's get nasty. It's almost like a different word for saying, yo, that's dope, that's sick. It's like saying that's nasty, you know, that I was kind of trying to start this kind of trend. Like, let's get nasty, let's get crazy, let's get crunk, you know, type thing.
And you're going to have some more cool collaborations you were telling me about. You want to give us a little bit of a sneak peek?
Yeah, um, actually Knots, who's a huge producer. He did the Barry Bonds joint for Kanye and he's worked with Snoop, Dre, uh, Busta Rhymes. So, he's on my project. Hand in Lane, who works with Timberland. Uh, he's kind of Timberland's right-hand man. Uh, just so talented, like on the keys, he's, he's been playing for years. Uh, just him and and Chad Hugo from The Neptunes.
So, have you put acting aside for now or are you just really focusing on your music?
Yeah, I mean people say, I mean, you could probably do both and you can once, I think once it gets started, but I think in the beginning stages, you know, when I started doing music, it was almost like starting over again. And I've missed out on so many auditions this year and my agent's like, where are you? Um, I'm like, I'm in London. I'm in London. I'm over here. So, um, it it's I've kind of put it on the back burner to work on music because it music is more my passion. It's what I want, you know.
So, when did you have that moment when you woke up and you're like, that's it, I'm focusing on music. It's a really big leap to take, as you said, it's a really big challenge to make that transition.
I kind of fell into acting cuz it was like my very first audition was for the Power Rangers and I got the role. And I mean, first audition. He's the Power Rangers on the first try. Who are you? They were like, I don't know, I just felt like I wanted to come out to the world as like, this is kind of like who I am. I'm a musician too. I'm I'm I'm no one knows I sing, that I produce, that I write. No one knew that. You know, so it's kind of like a whole another side of me that people don't know. They either know me as the Power Ranger in Blue Tights or the cocky Spanish guy from One Tree Hill, Felix. Or, you know, the Boys in Motion on That So Raven. You know what I mean? Like, they know me from different roles, but they don't know who I am.
What's up, this is Michael Kopon. Thanks for hanging out with me in the studio, Young Hollywood. Catch you soon.
