Welcome to YoungHollywood. com.

Young Hollywood

Hey, what's up, Young Hollywood? It's Michelle Marie, and I'm here with multi-talented Blake Lewis.

Young Hollywood

Now you guys might remember him as the Beatboxing King on American Idol.

Young Hollywood

So what's been going on since then?

Blake Lewis

Lots of uh, touring and uh, producing other artists in Seattle.

Young Hollywood

The cool thing is that, you know, you had this great platform to just get your face out there, and you made a name for yourself on the show, and you continued on with the success and continued on with the fan base.

Blake Lewis

It's been really great.

Blake Lewis

Uh, you know, the fact that I can reach people just like Australia and all these fans, like Saudi Arabia.

Blake Lewis

Like I would have never, never would have thought I had fans out there.

Blake Lewis

It's so awesome to connect with so many amazing people.

Young Hollywood

Totally.

Young Hollywood

And you've been on tour with so many cool artists, you know, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, who's so huge right now.

Young Hollywood

What was it like being on tour with everybody?

Blake Lewis

Awesome experience.

Blake Lewis

I mean, the Grammys brought me out as their, their main host for all these uh, big shows they did, you know?

Blake Lewis

And I was the main MC and DJ and and did my, you know, one-man band show with my loop pedals and everything.

Blake Lewis

So it was great to be in front of those crowds and such different eclectic audiences every night.

Young Hollywood

You kind of dabble into different genres, but you make it all your own.

Blake Lewis

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

And to your own sound.

Young Hollywood

And with this album, it's called Heartbreak on Vinyl.

Young Hollywood

It's like electropop dance.

Young Hollywood

How do you like to describe the sound?

Blake Lewis

For this record I set out, you know, I wanted to make a dance record.

Blake Lewis

That's what I wanted to do the first time, but didn't get the chance to do it.

Blake Lewis

So, my style is more like more of a mid-tempo, down tempo kind of triphop.

Blake Lewis

It was all like getting together with the right producers to produce what I wanted and what I heard.

Young Hollywood

Well, I know with your single "Sad Song", to me it sounds kind of like an old school 80s joint, maybe like a Depeche Mode kind of sound.

Blake Lewis

This is a sad song, come sing with me tonight.

Blake Lewis

Just sing with me.

Blake Lewis

I don't try and go for 80s, it just naturally comes out.

Blake Lewis

I mean, I'm a child of the 80s, you know, and that's where like, thank you for the the Depeche Mode remark.

Blake Lewis

I'm very honored about that.

Blake Lewis

But uh, it just kind of just comes, naturally comes out.

Blake Lewis

Like, uh, all my melodies are organic and freestyled over a microphone.

Young Hollywood

How's that go again?

Blake Lewis

It all comes naturally, but I'm in love with, you know, synthesizers and just old keyboards and whatnot.

Young Hollywood

So cool that that's all coming back too.

Blake Lewis

And twist knobs and you know.

Blake Lewis

It I it's definitely, you know, it's definitely kind of like 2080s, which I've said before.

Young Hollywood

2080s, I like that.

Young Hollywood

You're a songwriter, you play the keys, drums, guitar, everything beatbox, of course.

Young Hollywood

What do you think makes up Blake Lewis?

Young Hollywood

Like what are the things that you are most passionate about when it comes to music?

Blake Lewis

That came from, you know, a jazz vocal freestyle world, you know, with hip-hop and I was writing hooks for, you know, MCs and stuff for their albums in Seattle and had some success in that uh, before American Idol.

Blake Lewis

You know, entertaining just in general and and doing it live, live.

Blake Lewis

That's what, you know, intrigued me about American Idol.

Blake Lewis

That's why I was okay with like coming on the show and, you know, I think why I got as far as I did is 'cause people liked, you know, my whatever I was doing.

Young Hollywood

You got a chance to get Michelle Obama to beatbox.

Young Hollywood

Now that's crazy.

Young Hollywood

What was that like?

Blake Lewis

Meeting her was just amazing, you know, and I don't ever get starstruck, but I mean, you know, here's this, you know, very influential, powerful woman and it was all women.

Blake Lewis

It was just like estrogen.

Blake Lewis

And I was just like, this is my kind of vibe, right?

Blake Lewis

You know, like, I can play to these women, but it was like some of the old ladies were just like staring.

Blake Lewis

What is this beatboxing about?

Blake Lewis

And Michelle got it and she beatbox.

Blake Lewis

And I got everyone to beatbox.

Blake Lewis

It was cool, you know.

Young Hollywood

The whole style that you got right right now is very cool.

Young Hollywood

How do you describe it?

Young Hollywood

The Blake style.

Blake Lewis

I just, I don't know.

Blake Lewis

You know, everyone's like, this guy goes, "Hey, what's up Flocksiegels?" as walking down the street.

Blake Lewis

I was like, "Yeah, this is the Flock Siegels deal.

Blake Lewis

I don't, you know, I guess."

Young Hollywood

And a lot of cool tattoos right here.

Blake Lewis

Yeah, I had this one when I was on the show, but I finally got this piece done.

Blake Lewis

There's just like kind of like my code of arms of my best friend.

Blake Lewis

But this coin.

Blake Lewis

I'm kind of obsessed with art and I love wearing it.
