With "Fire Burning", Sean Kingston Comes "Back 2 Life"

About this video
Our old friend Sean Kingston stops by the Studio to tell us all about his album 'Back 2 Life', which was largely inspired by his recovery from a near-fatal jet ski accident in 2011. Sean dishes on all the amazing artists who collaborated with him on the album, such as Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, and T.I., and reveals why he did not work with his protege, Justin Bieber, this time around (could all those "Punk'd" episodes have something to do with it?). We also quiz him on some fun facts and ask him how someone qualifies as a "Beautiful Girl"! Hosted by Kinsey Schofield.

K-Kingston! That's what I'm saying though, are is there ever going to be a white flag? Like is somebody ever going to surrender? Somebody call nine one one. Kingston here at the Young Hollywood Studios and somebody call nine one one cuz I'm with the handsome Mr. Sean Kingston. Thank you, thank you, sweet. Back to life is hitting the airwaves. And it's about to hit my iTunes player. Tell me everything there is to know about Back to Life.
Basically, I started working on this album for about I'd say a good almost a year. I got into an accident, a big jet ski accident. I almost lost my life and um, it made me more humble, made me focus a lot of stuff. Before uh, I had a lot of my stuff on the Back to Life album was supposed to come out before the accident. But then once the accident happened, I went in back in the studio once I recovered and said I wanted to re redo everything. Going through a dark place of my time and I couldn't even see the light. Had my back up against the wall. I was feeling like doing what's right. And Back to Life is just a reintroduction. You know, like I don't look to Back to Life to, you know, just to to shock the world. What it is, it's more of my story, it's more of me coming back to basically tell what happened with the accident and stuff like that. But the album is in generally just one of my, I think it's the best work I ever done. I have everybody on the album. I have um, Wiz Khalifa on the album. I have Nicki Minaj on the album again. I have uh, TI on the album. I have Shakira on the album. I have a lot of dope people on the album so. So I'm excited.
But Sean Kingston fans, people that love you and love your sound are not gonna be disappointed 'cause you're not streaming too much.
No, I'm not streaming too much away. No. It's still gonna be fun, it's still gonna be feel good, happy music. You know what I'm saying? It's still gonna be me, represent Jamaica, represent Miami, mixing ultra sounds, mixing the pop music with the reggae music. It's still gonna be that type of stuff. It's still gonna be catchy. It's just gonna be to another level.
And tell me about working with TI for the single. That had to be amazing.
That was amazing. Yeah. TI always been, you know, top 10 on my list. Like he's amazing, he's a lyricist. So when I worked with him, he hit me up he's like, "Yo, I want to, you know what I'm saying, send back the verse." I'm like, he's like, "I love the song." I said, "You know I'm send back the verse." He's like, "Yeah." And when he sent it, I really liked listening to him. I'm like, "Wow, he killed it."
Not gonna lie to you, I was a little disappointed when I heard that Eenie Meenie wasn't gonna be on me.
Eenie Meenie? Justin is like a huge friend of mine. He's, you know what I'm saying, he's incredible. The world knows that but it's just like, it's the sound of that my new album, it's kind of like not Eenie Meenie doesn't really fit it. You know what I'm saying? So it's like, yeah.
Well, yeah, cuz his sound has changed. He
That's what I'm saying, it's like we both grew up. Like he's doing a whole new type of thing, I'm doing a whole new type of thing.
Speaking of your relationship with him, he He got you pretty good on Punk'd. Oh. I don't even want to tell. I hate to I'm not I'm not trying to make you mad right now. I think
I'm have to get him back. We gonna have to plan something, man. We gotta do something.
That's what I'm saying though, are is there ever going to be a white flag? Like is somebody ever going to surrender? Because this, this is like worse than Spencer and Heidi versus Lauren Conrad. This is like a never-ending battle between you and JD. What do you what would you do if you had your way and you could do an episode of Punk'd with him?
I would do um, I would do something with one of his one of his cars or something.
Oh, that is rude.
Yeah, like you know what I'm saying, like wreck one of his cars. You know he loves his cars and he hooks them all up with West Coast Custom Design all of them. I just do like some crazy like you know what I'm saying, have him come out and his car just be torn up or some, you know what I'm saying. He'd be like, "What's going on?" You know what I'm saying?
I want I'm hurting for him already and this hasn't even come to fruition. My girl looking like, the way she dropping low that thing. Got me want to spend my money on her. I feel like you're always on the road.
Yeah.
And you've toured with um Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé.
Beyoncé. She's amazing. That was like one of the best tours. She's like a, like she's professional, you know, she's like a That's like when I watch her it's like motivation and inspiring for me as a performer, as an artist and everything. So that was a great tour.
And how important has social media been to you and in the growth? Because I feel like you've evolved so much.
You know I got discovered off MySpace.
Right.
So like I got signed off MySpace and that's like really what gave me my chance was MySpace. If it wasn't for the internet, where would I be? Would I still be trying to hand out demo CDs or whatever it is? Cuz it's like, the social network just basically took me, you know, changed my life.
I have five questions that I know your fans don't don't know this information about you. So I have five questions. Okay. Who makes you laugh the loudest?
My friend Chief. My friend Chief. Shout out to Chief. He makes He's a funny guy, he's a comedian.
Finish this sentence. My mom loves my
My mom loves my music.
Aw. She doesn't like your hugs though.
No, she doesn't. She said it's too small. She likes a pat on the back. She likes on music.
Aw. Um, who would you share your last stick of gum with?
A beautiful girl that's a Sean Kingston fan.
Oh. I'll share with her. That's good. That's a good one. Favorite song to sing in the shower?
Waka Flocka.
What? I'm gonna have to Google it. Waka Flocka?
Waka Flocka. He's an artist. Waka Flocka. He sings like, he's a song called like, "O Let's Do It." I feel like it's just an energy song.
You lather, rinse, repeat and Waka Flocka?
Waka Flocka. Waka Flocka.
What's the what's your least favorite body part? You're like, do you hate toes? Do you hate ears?
No. I like toes.
You Okay.
I like toes. Um, ears. I don't know about ears.
You don't think about 'em?
I don't even think about 'em. Yeah. I don't say I don't like 'em. I just don't really think about 'em.
I have to give Lynn in the back a shout out because she wants to know what qualifies a beautiful girl.
Beautiful girl um, just personality and just real, be loyal. You know what I'm saying? um, be real, just ambitions. You have to ambitions. I can't a girl, you know, like a girl might be beautiful on the outside but if she's not really like mentally trying to go anywhere with her life. It just makes her you know, you basically got to have ambitions and wanna win and wanna do things and get out there and explore.
What a sweet answer. Sean Kingston, you are a treat. And please behave yourself in Vegas this weekend. Why? I don't want the halo that is glowing on top of your head to be tarnished by next week.
No, it's not gonna be tarnished, it's gonna be slanted a little bit.
Oh no. Oh my gosh. She's fire burning, fire burning on the dance floor. That little shorty's fire burning on the dance floor. Somebody call nine one one.
