Beyond The Athlete: Carmelo Anthony

life never ends so does our lovely word. What's up everybody? This is Carmelo Anthony. This is beyond athlete. It's Michelle Marie and I am here with All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony here at the tag body spray launch. Now, you know, I have to say to you, what an amazing season you had. I mean, you guys really had a great run. What are you guys doing to stay in contention right now with the rest?

I I I think we we we keeping the team, you know, for the most part. the core of the team for the most part. We probably make a couple of additions to the team and that's it. I don't really think we, you know, we we need anything big. We got we got a great team right now. We're a young team and we're going to build on that.

So, what do you guys need to do to improve to catch up with the Lakers next next season?

Um I think it was just experience, man. That's that's all. I think they've been there last year. They they was, you know, they wanted it. They it was their year and I think, you know, I I I feel like I'm in that same situation right now, so.

Now, if you had Chauncey, you know, the whole season for next season, how is that going to help your game?

Oh, man, I mean, everybody saying what happened, you know, this season when when when he came, so you could just imagine, you know, what's going to happen, so.

There's tons of changes, too, in the league. You know, you got Shaq over at Cleveland. Now, Ron Artest is at the Lakers. Does that give you a kind of any nerves or anything with Ron on the team?

No, no nerves. No nerves. I'm excited. I wish I could start training camp, you know, next week, but this season will be exciting, you know, from from Shaq over there in Cleveland to Artest out here in L. A. You know, Vince Carter is in Orlando. The league is shaking up and I think it's just even all around the board now.

Well, I know you definitely play your game hard, especially in the playoffs. Now, for next season, are there any things that you want to do to improve your game?

I try not to pick one thing. I try to improve my overall game. Um, you know, each year when you're playing in the season, you always find stuff that that's working that season in the off season. You want to, you know, work on that, so. I got some things, man.

Right. You got some things. Well, you know, going into the season, it's a little bit different because you guys made it so far last season. Is it a little bit different for the team from the previous year's?

Yeah, I think we got a we got a better taste in our mouth. You know, we we've been there. Yeah, we're ready to go. We, you know, we smelled it, we tasted it and, you know, we want that.

You've been an All-Star and you got your shoe line. What else would you love to accomplish? I mean, because you're already doing so much at such a young age.

I do a lot, man. I I, you know, I do a lot of charity work. Um, you know, like you said, I have my own signature shoe line over there at at at the Jordan brand. I'm tapping into the, you know, the the the movie industry, the film industry. Um,

Is there a little acting in you?

No, no, no, no. I'm just just producing, man. I you know, my my website, this is Melo just. com is about to launch. So, I'm I'm doing a lot right now. But most importantly, I'm focusing on what's at hand and that's basketball.

You've definitely had, you know, a struggle when you're younger and now you're here at this like wonderful time in your career. Is there anything from the past that you know, you wish you would have done differently or you think the road was pretty pretty smooth for you?

No, you know what? I think I think, you know, God put that road in front of me, the road that I, you know, I I came across for a reason. You know, only the strong survive and I'm here today, you know, after everything that I've accomplished and everything that I've been through so far. I'm still here. I'm still, you know, happy. I'm still the way, you know, who I am. My fans, you know, even more fans is just falling in love with me and I love that, so. I wouldn't change anything.

Would you change anything? No. If you weren't playing basketball, what would you you be doing?

Um, I'd probably be running my film company right now, man. Just working on film, working on movies. Um, letting people see another, you know, a different side of me other than just playing basketball.

You're definitely like an ultimate baller. What would you say to someone that would want to be just like you? What are the qualities that you have to overcome to be real a true baller?

Well, you you got to know that it's going to be tough times. You know, you got to stay strong. Um, keep people around you that's, you know, that that love you for who you are, genuinely love you. Um, anything you put your mind to, you can accomplish and that's, you know, that's what I did.

Now, from a day-to-day basis, um, are you constantly being, obviously, followed by cameras and everything like that. How do you overcome those things? Because, I mean, especially now, it seems like you're definitely highlighted a little bit more.

I think walking out the house and walking anywhere and just seeing cameras, I think that's second nature to me. You know, I'm used to it. You know, I don't even see it. I don't even see the cameras. Even if you don't even see that one. You know what I mean, so, it's it's I'm used to it.

If you had to pick one All-Star basketball player to play with today from the past, like one of your favorites, who would you love to play with?

Of course, everybody wants to play with Michael Jordan. That's just. Yeah, that's. Everybody want to play with him, so.

Now, getting to know like the real Carmelo Anthony. You've got this cool style right here going on. Tell me about what your day-to-day routine is with style.

It depends on the situation. You know, it depends on the situation. It it it depends on the environment. Um,

What are you wearing today?

Today, I'm just in a, you know, casual cardigan, some cargo shorts and and, you know, the Kanye West, Louis Vuitton shows. It's it's it's a it's a good day.

Kanye's doing it big right now. Do you uh have any artists right now that you are looking at that are like on the horizon to becoming like big superstars, any up and coming people you love?

I would say, you know, right now that I think the the hottest name out there right now is Drake. You know, you got to see that. Um, you know, I actually I I actually am involved in, you know, Cassidy project. So, you know, I I really think that's going to, you know, that's going to blow up, so.

Now, going back to the event. Today's a great launch for Tag Body Spray. The cool thing is that you guys get to name your own sprays. Right. Tell me about yours.

Well, my my spray is named Stay Up. I picked that name just for the simple fact that me, you know, knowing my fan base is, you know, kids, to teenagers, young, um, and I just think it just flows off the tongue. It just stay up. It's easy to it's easy to say, All right, Mel. I'll see you later. Stay up. Like that's it it goes together. So, it's fresh.

So, when you're on the court, how do you stay up?

Um, just always work hard, you know, play hard, you know, never give no moments up. Um, and just give them my all. And I think people see that and when they, you know, want to be like me and, you know, me being a role model like that I am. Right. I'm staying up, so.

What are the few things that you have to remind yourself every day when you are being that role model to the other ones?

Always know that, you know, you're in the spotlight. There's always a camera a camera is always on you, you know, even in this day and age. Especially in this day and age. Um, you know, always know that. I think that's the number one thing walking out my door just always know that. And being watched when you don't see when you don't see no cameras or nothing, just know you're being watched.
