Congratulations on being Subway's Fresh Artist filmmakers this year. How does that feel?

Thank you. It's exciting. It's really.

First time in Texas?

Yes. Most definitely.

They bring you to Texas. Not bad, right?

Yeah, this is like the greatest thing ever.

Let's talk about your film. Um, yours it's a it's a based on a true story.

Yes, it's a documentary. It's a documentary actually. Yes, it's a documentary actually. It's um based on the true story of a refugee from Bhutan named Jasu Betty, um who came to Syracuse, New York in 2008 and um now he sits on the Mayor's Council. He's done a bunch of amazing things. He's a community leader. Uh he's the president of the Bhutanese community and his first job was at Subway.

Okay, so I have to go down the line favorite sandwich at Subway, what do you get on your sandwich?

I'm like a simple dude. I just like Italian herbs and cheese bread with the turkey, uh some spinach, tomatoes and then throw a little chipotle sauce and I'm good.

You've wrapped.

Me?

Yeah.

No.

You could just throw. You can you can wrap that whole thing that I get on my sandwich. It's like the LA thing. Is that what it is?

A little bit.

What do you get on yours?

My favorite sandwich is a cold cut. The classic. It has to have banana peppers. I love the banana peppers. Pickles, jalapeños, mustard, then you got to top it off with like the salt and the pepper and the vinegar and the oil.

I'm an Italian BMT guy. I do. I yeah, I know. I do uh It sounds like a like a dating profile. I might be This is my match. com. Um but yeah, I do Italian BMT with banana peppers, pickles, um and then oil and vinegar and I'm good.

So tell us a little bit about your film and sort of how the the premise of the film came about.

So the idea is that we're in a small town. We're all big fans of David Lynch, so we liked the idea of doing a Twin Peaks spoof and there's a big pageant that's about to happen and the pageant queen goes missing just a day before the rehearsal. Um and so what's happened is the culinary science investigator comes in and he is forced to use the only thing left behind on the crime scene, which is a Subway sandwich to find the kidnapper and to solve the mystery.

Do you print pull prints? Can you pull prints off of a Subway sandwich? Have you figured that out?

You can pull bite marks. And DNA. We definitely did that. Saliva. You got it. You got it.

Oh my gosh, that's a brilliant idea.

The premise of it really came about from the idea that uh you can tell somebody's personality uh from their sandwich. So our CSI investigator comes in and based on looking at the sandwich, he can tell who the perpetrator of the crime is.

Okay. So tell me what you guys get on your sandwich so I can read your personality.

Well, my favorite is uh chicken Teriyaki, being half Asian. Oh, that's so good. Um, veggie delight and if I'm feeling dangerous, Italian BMT. But I always get extra So it's two personalities. Yeah, I guess. And I always get extra black olives. Whatever that means. Still trying to figure that out.

I don't know, it sounds dangerous. I'll take it. You could be you could be like, you know, the perpetrator. You could be the person committing the crimes if you're going crazy on those black olives. What about you?

That's what a greedy pattern was like. What about you? I like a black forest ham with avocados and uh, yeah. Olives too. Black olives. Oh, yeah. Oh.

Okay. All right. Well, I'm a California transplant, so I always go for turkey avocado with a little bit of pepper to spice it up.

And this is team fairy tales.

Yeah. Thank you. We're excited. Yeah, cheer for yourselves. This is incredible. This is incredible. Subway, you know. It was an amazing experience. You know, Subway and USC together was What could be better?

Okay, so I love the name of your film, Fairy Tales. I kind of wanted to be a fairy tale princess when I was young, but that's another story. So tell me a little bit about it.

So, Sylvia is a candy fairy and she gets banished from her fairy world for eating human food, a Subway sandwich. So then she has to go on a journey to regrow her wings and make a new wand and she meets a Subway employee named Will and together they conquer the fairy world.

That is the sweetest thing I think I've ever heard.

Yeah, it's really sweet. There's romance. There's action and adventure.

Tell me what a Subway romance is like.

Well, you build a sandwich together.

Do you? You get to pick out the ingredients and What if the two the couple realizes they have different tastes in the sandwich? What do they do? Can they do like half and half of the foot long?

That makes it better. Okay. That's what makes it more romantic.

Okay. So let's find out your sandwiches of choice and see.

Well, I would do chicken bacon ranch, of course, with the Italian herbs and cheese bread toasted. Swiss cheese. So good. I like the Black Forest Ham with extra pepper. Okay. Oven roasted chicken, no lettuce, spinach, and tons of avocado.

I heard something about you guys were editing across the street from a Subway store.

We'd be sitting with the editors and we're editing all the scenes together and there's a scene where Sylvia's chowin' down on the sandwich like a nut and it's just made us so hungry and we'd run across the street for our dinner and lunch breaks and just go chow down together and it was Yeah, it's right across the street from us here and it's like so easy to get there. It's always busy there too.

All right. So I think because we have some Syracuse students here that are also fresh artist filmmakers. One of you, we're gonna have an East Coast, West Coast because we're in Texas. Cornhole battle. All right, folks, very serious event going on. This is the official Subway Platisza Cornhole challenge. We got Anthony representing the queue in the East Coast. We got John representing USC, West Coast. Okay, guys, here are the rules. Four shots each. If it's a tie, it'll be sudden death. Are you ready? You wanna go first? Okay. He's intense. He's he's he's focusing. He's looking cocky. Very close, very close, but a miss. Okay, John, take it. He's got the more laid-back style. He gets it in. Can we have a celebratory dance? There you go. There you go. It is one to nothing. Anthony, you're go. Again, very, very close, but a miss. John's got that laid-back style. He just sort of takes it like, you know, it's effortless. He's got that stroke, he's got that swing, he's got the underhand going. He's a righty and here we go. And he almost got another one, but it is still one to nothing. And here we go. Third toss for Anthony. He's very focused, ladies and gentlemen. I feel like he might make a miss on. He does it. Can we get the queue, throw down, hoedown dance? There you go. There you go. There you go. All right. It's one all. This is very tense moment in the game. John, take it. And he gets it in under pressure. One to one he now makes it two to one. That was the last toss. All right. Well, that was your last. Just just for bragging rights. You can toss the last one. And he nailed it again. Incredible show. Can we have can we have a last dance? Should we dance together?
