Young Hollywood

Hey, what's up guys? It's Tracy Bear with Young Hollywood and we are at South by Southwest, continuing the coverage and I'm with Ty Sheridan, who you are literally one to watch. Everyone's been buzzing about you. And we were just talking that he's actually from Texas and I'm from Texas. Yeah, I'm um I'm like right in between Dallas and Houston. So how was like, how was that growing up in a small town like?

Tye Sheridan

It was good, you know, um, I uh you know, I had like the traditional family, my dad worked for UPS and my mom um was a small business owner. And then me and my sister just went to public school and and one day um I just got I just uh got cast in a movie.

Young Hollywood

And not just any movie. I mean, this guy was cast, you were working with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in your first movie.

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, I know. I know. That's unheard of.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I know.

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, they just went through Texas and uh they just were auditioning 10,000 kids and three of us got a roll.

Young Hollywood

Is there anyone you haven't worked with yet that you're like, I'm dying to work with this person?

Tye Sheridan

Um, I'd like to work with James Franco.

Young Hollywood

So you want to do like comedy at some point your career?

Tye Sheridan

Um, I don't know. We'll see. Yeah. I did like six or seven dramas and then I did this guest appearance on a sitcom, which is kind of weird. Um, to jump from drama to sitcom.

Young Hollywood

But just the story of your life.

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, that's right. It's just my life story. Cool things happen.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, it was cool. So, Joe, you know, this is an awesome like super thriller movie. You've got Nicholas Cage, another actor that to add to your list. So, and just sort of like the premise of the movie is, you know, you're this kid coming from a homeless family and you're asking for a job and then just like what happens from there? Just

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, well, um I asked uh Nicholas Cage's character, Joe, for a job and he reluctantly gives me one. Um, and then he just kind of takes me under his wing and he becomes my role model.

Young Hollywood

So how is that? I mean like just working with him and he's an incredible actor. Did he did you learn a lot from him?

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, he's great. No, he's a great guy to learn from. He's super professional. Um, you know, I think he was actually he was while we were shooting, I think he was staying here and he was here, you know, two months before we even started shooting.

Young Hollywood

You were shooting in Austin, right?

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, we shot in Austin. Um, so he was here like prepping for his role, prepping for this movie, like two months before it even began. So he was like

Young Hollywood

Wow. Really into it. So, I'm in Austin, like you've been here before. I assume. Is this your first South by Southwest?

Tye Sheridan

Uh, first South by Southwest. I had a movie here last year, but I wasn't here. I was in LA. So,

Young Hollywood

And in terms of like food, are you like a foodie cuz here obviously Austin's Austin's all about the food. I mean, you know the barbecue things.

Tye Sheridan

Oh, yeah, definitely definitely got to get Franklin's and um what are some other ones?

Young Hollywood

Have you waited in the two-hour line at Franklin's?

Tye Sheridan

I I haven't. You know, I don't you have you doing that? I don't I don't I don't think I've ever had Franklin's.

Young Hollywood

Really?

Tye Sheridan

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

I haven't had it either. I've wanted it so bad because I'm a huge barbecue fan. I've wanted Franklin's so bad and I've got to get it. Today. You got to get it. I'm on

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, I'm on your page. Um, so

Young Hollywood

Maybe we need to go to Franklin's after this.

Tye Sheridan

I think that's We'll go to Franklin's after this.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so I just was barely noticing that your hair is actually really long. It's in a bun tied in the back and I'm like, wait a minute, you have long hair.

Tye Sheridan

It's yeah, it's there. It's all there. It's uh, but it's extensions. So not real. Yeah, it was I had to get extensions for a role I just did and it was crazy. Like they were packing because we were supposed to be, you know, living out in the desert and it was supposed to be set back in biblical times. So you didn't take a shower. So in the mornings, I would go to the makeup room and a barber, our hairdresser, would just take a bucket of dirt and like dump it on my head.

Young Hollywood

Are you serious?

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, and so it took like an hour and a half to get out of my hair every night.

Young Hollywood

You know, a lot of your fans out there want to get to know you a little bit better. So we have a couple questions. Okay. Just sort of like rapid fire, whatever comes to mind. Uh, is there any artist that you're loving right now in terms of music? Like what's sort of your style?

Tye Sheridan

Um, I, yeah, there's just one band called Avett Brothers. Have you heard of them?

Young Hollywood

No.

Tye Sheridan

They're really cool.

Young Hollywood

I probably should.

Tye Sheridan

Yeah. They're from uh, I think they're from South Carolina. Um and I'm really a fan of their music. It's like a folk kind of country rock.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so number two, if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tye Sheridan

Mexican food. Any Mexican food is good.

Young Hollywood

Any Mexican food? Okay. That's a good one. So what is your ideal day off?

Tye Sheridan

Uh, ideal day off. Um, just hanging out at my house and getting to sleep in my bed. Um, watching a little Sports Center, catching the top 10. And um, drinking a little coffee and then maybe going fishing or something.

Young Hollywood

That sounds like an amazing day, actually.

Tye Sheridan

Yeah, that's my perfect day.

Young Hollywood

Okay, and if you can meet anyone famous, dead or alive, who would it be?

Tye Sheridan

Uh, James Dean.

Young Hollywood

Cool. Well, you are definitely one to watch. Everyone's been buzzing about Joe and can't wait to see the movie. Thank you. And have fun at South by.

Tye Sheridan

Thank you. I will. Thanks.
