Welcome to YoungHollywood. com.
Hey guys, it's Michelle Marie.
I am here with Jason Derulo.
I did that last time.
Oh, very nice.
And you do it very well.
You should keep doing it.
Every time I interview you, I'm gonna do it.
Awesome.
Congratulations, I have to say, on the two awards that you're nominated for for the VMA Awards.
Best Male Video, and also Best New Artist which was a huge category.
How are you feeling about the nominations?
Oh, incredible.
It's an incredible blessing.
Um, and, you know, for the nominees, you know, to be such, you know, massive, massive, uh, talents.
It's it's incredible to be a part of that.
And I think everyone, every nominee is, uh, a winner in their own right.
And they're the best at something in their own right because, uh, you know, they're all they're all special in different ways.
A couple weeks ago, I was in the studio with JR, your man, and we played What If.
He showed me how that was actually created.
It was pretty crazy.
I love that song, by the way.
Thank you so much.
You know, it's a new single out.
Tell me more about how that came together.
It was pretty late at night.
It was like maybe uh, 10 10:00 in the evening.
And uh, JR had made this beat and, uh, he called me and was like, "Hey, come and check this beat out."
He was like, "I I don't know if I don't know if it's for you.
I don't know like really what it is, but I think it's really cool."
And I heard it and I fell in love with it.
I was like, "Wow, this is incredible."
And I just quickly, uh, gotten the booth.
He left.
Quickly gotten the booth and I just just started, uh, humming some things.
And, uh, lyrics just started just like coming out of nowhere, you know.
And you know, the song is really special because it it talks about the beauty of the world, you know.
The beauty of the world is not knowing what's on the horizon, not knowing what's you know, when the end of something is is on the horizon or the or the beginning of something is there.
So, um, you know, it's saying, "What if we are is meant to be?"
Right.
Yeah.
What if?
What if?
What if?
Now, not only is the song amazing, but the video is killer.
I mean, the whole thing is done backwards, right?
Right.
So, tell me more about that concept and how you came up with it.
I wanted to, uh, definitely do something that was a little different.
Um, so the the basically the the video concept is I'm with this girl that I'm ready to propose to, you know.
I'm I'm a young man and I'm ready to propose to this girl and she goes outside and is, you know, about to get hit by a car.
But before the car hits her, the video starts going into reverse.
And, uh, it takes us all the way back to the moment that we when we first met.
And I had to decide whether I should go meet her, you know, and that would be her demise if I met her or just kept continue to walk and save her life.
Now, we've been with you for a really long time.
We were on the set of all your videos.
You recently visited the Young Hollywood studio.
And then I I was just checking on YouTube and our video that we did has half a million views already.
Like, you were like, yeah, you were like the YouTube King.
What's going on with that?
Yeah.
I think I'm I'm I'm really like most one of the most viewed people on YouTube ever.
It's crazy.
It is really crazy.
Now, do you get a chance to talk to the fans about that?
I mean, when they comment on everything like what do what do you do to like make time for them?
Yeah.
Because I mean five years ago, I mean stuff like this didn't really exist, you know, Twitter and Facebook and stuff like that.
So I would I would have loved to, uh, you know, been able to follow my favorite artists and know what they were doing at all times.
Uh, so I think it's really important that I, uh, give back to my fans because they give me so much, you know.
Hey, what up?
