8 TV & Movie Couples We Idolize!

Written by Riddhi Chopra. Published: February 25 2021

Whether you are a fan of the romance genre or not, on-screen couples often portray love in a pure and realistic form. From TV sitcoms to movies, these iconic couples have shown us what it truly means to be in love!

1. Leslie & Ben, "Parks and Recreation"

Leslie and Ben start out as co-workers forbidden to date due to workplace rules. We see these law-abiding public servants attempt to ignore the tension between them and keep their feelings (and hands) to themselves before they finally get together and ultimately get married in Season 5. Their compatibility and adoration for each other makes them total #relationshipgoals!

2. Schmidt & Cece, "New Girl"

From the beginning of the series, Schmidt sets his intention to marry Cece by betting $5 and saying “Girl, Imma marry you.” Flashforward 4 seasons later, Schmidt spends an entire episode retrieving that exact same $5 bill he accidentally throws out and later proposes to her using the same reference as when they first met. Schmidt’s dedication to Cece from day one teaches us to never settle for less than we deserve!

3. Monica & Chandler, "Friends"

Starting out as neighbors and close friends, Monica and Chandler do not have an obvious romantic arc from the start of the series. They continue to become closer and eventually get together, keeping it a secret from their friends for a while. When they do get married, their friendship continues to deepen, showing us that love is easy when it's with your best friend!

4. David & Patrick, "Schitt’s Creek"

As one of the best parts of the Emmy Award-winning series, David and Patrick’s relationship was sweet, emotional, and caring. The two start out as business partners for the town’s first luxury products apothecary and develop a mutual crush on each other. Their relationship explores Patrick’s discovery of his sexuality and coming out as an adult and David’s fear-based commitment issues. In the series finale, the two get married in a classic "Schitt’s Creek"-style wedding.

5. Patrick & Kat, 10 Things I Hate About You

Although their relationship initially starts with an arrangement, where Patrick was being paid money to date Kat so her younger sister would be allowed to date, the time they spend together reveals how deceiving appearances can often be. Patrick, an intimidating “bad boy”, turns out to be nurturing and ethical, and Kat, an antisocial pessimist, is really just hurt and scared. The two allow each other to be their true selves, a difficult feat to achieve in high school.

6. Sally & Harry, When Harry Met Sally

Sally and Harry’s story evolves over the course of a decade, whenever fate intertwines their paths every few years. During the first few meetings, they agree to not be friends, as Harry does not believe a man and a woman can be platonic friends without emotions getting in the way. When they do become friends, their closeness results in them eventually hooking up and the self-fulfilling prophecy coming true. They eventually get back together and get married, showing us that sometimes true love should be left up to fate!

7. Nick & Rachel, Crazy Rich Asians

Although Nick and Rachel come from different backgrounds, with Nick’s family being the most affluent in all of Singapore and Rachel being raised by a working-class single mother, they keep each other strong. Rachel understands the importance of family in Nick’s life and thus gives her all in trying to fit in with them. In the end, his mother realizes the genuinity of the couple’s love and gives her blessing for the two to get married.

8. Ron & Hermoine, Harry Potter Franchise

What starts out with childish banter beginning as early as age 11 eventually blossoms into cute crushes. Ron and Hermoine, as best friends to a tragic celebrity, have an adorable side arc with their romance. It isn’t until the 6th movie, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, that the two begin to realize their feelings for each other. The final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, sees them finally kiss and admit their feelings.
