As Valentine’s Day creeps upon us, the air gets sweeter as everyone is swooning (or hoping to swoon) for that love we all long for. Whether you love the sweets and treats Valentine’s Day comes with or the attention you give/receive from your special someone, there’s something hopeful and fun about Valentine’s Day. Some may think it’s artificial or forced, but it can serve as a reminder to share the love with the people we care about.

But if you're finding it hard to get into the holiday mood, here are some ways to find the Valentine’s Day spirit amidst the conversation hearts, chocolates, and grand gestures!

1. Watch Valentine’s Day (or any rom-com you love)

Escape reality with a swoon-worthy movie about love. Or if you don’t like love, watch a movie about how love is bad. Whatever works for you!

2. Hand Out Valentines

Throw it back to your childhood days when you’d hand make heart-shaped cards with cute puns. Give them to your boyfriend, girlfriend, friends, family, or a cute stranger! It’ll make their day.

3. Make Your (or That Special Someone’s) Favorite Dessert

Treating yourself should happen more often, and Valentine’s Day is a definite time to do it. Forget buying expensive chocolate-covered strawberries when you can make them yourself! Plus, if you are giving them away, it’s that much more special. It’s made with love!

4. Tell Your Crush You Think They Are Cool/Cute/Sweet/Funny... Love Is In The Air!

Yes, it’s cheesy, but that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about! Be spontaneous! You never know where it could lead you.

5. Throw a Valentine’s Day Party

It could be a Galentine’s Day party, a Brofest, a one-on-one date, or even an “I Hate Valentine’s Day” party, whatever your heart desires! Just enjoy yourself and the spirit Valentine’s Day brings!

Whether you are single, taken, or somewhere in between, enjoy the holiday and do what YOU want! What are your plans this Valentine’s Day?
