Tyra Banks & Willow Smith to front first GIRLCULT festival
Tyra Banks, Willow Smith and Kimora Lee Simmons are to headline the inaugural GIRLCULT festival in Los Angeles next month (Aug17).
Galore media company founders Price Chenoa and Jacob Dekat came up with the idea for a female-centric event and called in Simmons to help them promote it.
The trio has since booked retired model-turned-TV personality Banks as a keynote speaker and Smith as a performer.
"We wanted to give some of our favorite new artists a chance to touch everyone's souls with their work," Chenoa and Dekat explain. "Each artist will be speaking on topics that are near and dear to them. This festival is the Lilith Fair for Generation Z girls who live in these confusing times."
Lilith Fair was a touring all-female festival singer Sarah McLachlan launched in the late 1990s.
Simmons says, "There's no shortage of festivals this time of year for young people to gather, but my daughter, Ming Lee, and I are both excited to participate in GIRLCULT. (This is) a unique and first-of-its-kind celebration of music, passion and women's engagement."
Beyonce's protegees Chloe X Halle, Madison Beer, and Sevyn Streeter will also perform at the event, which will take place at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles.
