Liv Tyler: 'Breastfeeding shouldn't be stigmatised'
Liv Tyler decided to share her breastfeeding picture online because she wants to help erase the stigma associated with nursing in public.
Two weeks after becoming a new mom at 39 in July (16), the actress posted a shot of herself breastfeeding baby Lula on Instagram. Liv took the picture for her fiance Dave Gardner, but decided to post it online to showcase the "beautiful" moment.
"With the family stuff, it's tricky. But I feel so proud, and it's
so sweet," she tells People.com of choosing to make the intimate
moment public. "Honestly, I took that picture for David because we
were in bed snuggling and he was at work."
"I was in that sort of blissful mom mode and amazed that I didn't
look like a beast because I felt like one," she continues. "There
should be no stigma - it's a very beautiful and natural thing."
Liv is also mom to the couple's first child, Sailor Gene, 18
months, and her 11-year-old son Milo with ex-husband Royston
Langdon, as well as stepmom to Gardner's boy Gray, nine. She is
learning to adjust to her busy new life, but Steven Tyler's
daughter insists she wouldn't have it any other way.
"It's a whole new world, juggling four," she says. "This is
definitely one where everyone is chipping in (with Lula). The big
boys can hold her, and it's so sweet."
"(Milo) was so helpful when I was pregnant, and he's just the
sweetest," she continues. "The age gap is great because he's so
responsible, and so is Gray, David's son. They help us take care of
Sailor and the baby. They love to hold her and snuggle her, it's
very sweet."
However, Liv admits she has her hands full with Sailor and the new
infant.
"We're just trying to keep (Lula) alive," she jokes. "He wants to
pull on her little bassinet. I have to watch him so closely, but he
says 'baby' - one of his first clear words, which is cute."
Despite her hectic lifestyle, the actress insists life is
perfect.
"I'm completely blissed out," she smiles. "Sitting with all the
children and David, I literally keep pinching myself, going, 'Am I
dreaming? This is amazing'."
Liv is not the only famous mother to document her breastfeeding
journey - on Thursday (11Aug16), singer Pink posted an old photo of
herself and her five-year-old daughter Willow Sage in honor of
World Breastfeeding Week.
"I proudly post this photo of a very HEALTHY, NATURAL act between
mother and child," she wrote on Instagram. "Taken in Helsinki by a
very supportive and proud Papa."
