Aubrey Plaza attacks Catholic League for 'pure trash' review of new film

Actress Aubrey Plaza has lashed out at Catholic League officials who have blasted her new convent comedy without seeing it.

The religious group bosses have called The Little Hours "pure trash" but she insists there's no way they could have seen it before passing judgment as it premiered at the 2017 Los Angeles Film Festival on Monday night (19Jun17).

"They haven't even seen it yet, so maybe they should wait and see it before they get angry," Aubrey said during an appearance on U.S. TV show Conan on Monday night.

"We just thought, 'Let's be honest, we don't have any secrets here'. I just want everyone to like it. If they like it they like it, you know, get over it if they don't. It's not an indictment on Christianity or the church, it's a historical depiction of nuns from the middle ages and it's accurate what happens in the film. I'm being serious."

In the movie, based on author Giovanni Boccaccio's controversial 14th-century novella The Decameron, Plaza and Alison Brie play naughty nuns struggling with chastity vows.

The trailer for the comedy, which features The Catholic League's comments as a review, features scenes of nudity and sex. The R-rated film, which also features Brie's new husband Dave Franco, Fred Armison, and John C. Reilly, hits cinemas in the U.S. on 30 June (17).
