No, I say he, I mean he can draw fantastically. And then he can change it. You're digging in.

Freddie Highmore

I'm digging in, I'm digging in. Just admit that you said it. Own up to it. It's fine. It's fine.

Young Hollywood

I'm Oliver Tervina here at the Young Hollywood Studio with this handsome chap, Freddie Highmore. How are you?

Freddie Highmore

Very good, how are you doing?

Young Hollywood

Good. I was wondering if you could do me a favor, because you're good at accents. Yeah, I hear. Could you just do one throughout the interview, so my English accent still sticks out and

Freddie Highmore

No, it's funny how many Brits here. I don't like it. Not being at home. I don't like it. No. Sorry. I'm normally popular because of my accent. You're ruining that. And you're taking my credibility away, so.

Young Hollywood

Your new film, where you don't play a British guy.

Freddie Highmore

No, I don't. I play an American.

Young Hollywood

You do, very well. The Art of Getting By. When you look in the mirror and find something you've never had the courage to say before. How is that learning the American accent?

Freddie Highmore

I think the main thing when you're when you're doing an American accent is actually just to forget about it, do all the preparation beforehand. Right. And then when you're on the set and doing the scene, don't think about it at all.

Young Hollywood

Rule number one, cutting school is fun. That's a rule. Rule number two, cut rarely to preserve the specialness. Is that even a word? In the film, you're a you're good at drawing as well.

Freddie Highmore

Yep.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, no, he's a good good artist. I'm pretty useless. Okay. Uh, rubbish, as we say. Right, that. 'Cause you could have, It's not like I was going to pull out a pad. In a sketch thing and say draw. Or you can just sort of look and say, oh, I just, you know, do a bit of a Picasso or something, and pretend to sort of, you know, mess it all up and say, this is I can draw perfectly. I just decide to change it. You've just said that Picasso's art is in fact.

Freddie Highmore

No. No. No, I say he, I mean he can draw fantastically. And then he can change it.

Young Hollywood

You're digging in. I'm digging in, I'm digging in. Just admit that you said it. Own up to it. It's fine. It's fine. You've got to work with some amazing people. Yeah. Um, Johnny Depp, couple of times. How is it the first time you meet people like Johnny Depp, you just think, look at me.

Freddie Highmore

I think after a while, you you get used to the fact that they are, you know, just like everyone else. And I think they really want to be treated like that.

Young Hollywood

And Helena Bonham Carter, three times she's played your mom.

Freddie Highmore

Absolutely, yeah.

Young Hollywood

What's the reason behind that? Does every other female refuse to play your mom? She's the only one who will take on the role.

Freddie Highmore

All right, then, yeah. Obviously, my mom is is the perfect mom, but she's a she's a good one as well. Yeah, of course. Of course, my mom. I always keep your own, as they say.

Young Hollywood

And then you'll go back to what are you studying at Cambridge?

Freddie Highmore

I'm doing Arabic and Spanish.

Young Hollywood

Show-off. Well, it's true, though. Make make it up. You ask me the question. I'm just like I'm just sitting here thinking, what have I got in the bank? I can say Bonjour. Anything Arabic and Spanish you can, you can teach me right now?

Freddie Highmore

Um, an uh uh football. I like football. I like football. I guess that. You do speak Arabic and Spanish. Yeah, Arabic and Spanish. Football goal, I think, is is goal in Spanish, goal in Arabic.

Young Hollywood

Lots of different technology is going on. Um, and you're on Twitter and on

Freddie Highmore

I'm not on Twitter, actually.

Young Hollywood

You're not on Twitter. So, I can't ask you Twitter questions. I'm I if you've got some prepared for me. Subtly, I'm going to pull these out my pocket. You've been rehearsing that. When I was doing academics, you were.

Freddie Highmore

I was rehearsing pulling things out my pocket. How about that?

Young Hollywood

Exo Arlene. I'm assuming the Exo is like a case or something. That's her name. Exo Arlene. Um, you can totally play a young George Harrison. Haha. She put haha 'cause it was funny. Um, who's your favorite band?

Freddie Highmore

My favorite band. Um, I don't really have a particularly favorite.

Young Hollywood

I'm the same ever since the Spice Girls broke up. Don't listen to anyone anymore.

Freddie Highmore

No, at the moment I was listening to a group called The National, an American group from Ohio. So, listening to them for a bit, but it usually just sort of depends on the the week really, you know, you listen to something and then I sort of play it to death and then move on to another song.

Young Hollywood

The next one is Dreamer RO. Not quite sure what the RO stands for, but Dreamer RO. You mentioned you probably won't continue acting as an adult. What? Is this still true? Why wouldn't you want to continue?

Freddie Highmore

People always say to me that I I must have said this at one point, you know, I'm not so sure about carrying on, or it'd be great to carry on doing other things at the same time, and not just focus on acting. But no, at the moment it would be it would be great fun to continue and uh no plans to to stop.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for stopping by.

Freddie Highmore

Thank you very much.

Young Hollywood
