Young Hollywood

Hey guys, I'm Brandy Chang in the Young Hollywood Studio with Mr. Luke Roberts. Hi, Luke. How are you? Good to see you. You have a great name.

Luke Roberts Talks

Oh, yes. Roberts.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, we're just going to call you Luke Roberts. How do you say it?

Luke Roberts Talks

Luke Roberts. It's very upright, very English.

Young Hollywood

It is very nice though. Yeah, but any way you say it. I like it. Well, welcome. Your new show, Ransom. Like right off the bat, it starts off kind of action-packed, right?

Luke Roberts Talks

Yeah, it fast tracks you in.

Young Hollywood

Can you please tell viewers at home what Ransom is about?

Luke Roberts Talks

So, Ransom is about a very, um, impressive, uh, hostage negotiation team. So, basically a team of four negotiators. Um, myself, uh, Sarah Green, Brandon Jay McLaren and, um, Nazneen Contractor. And, uh, we play these characters who trot around the globe, um, essentially sort of, uh, parachuted into crisis situations. And, you know, we don't carry guns, obviously, as negotiators and it's all about trying to resolve these conflicts in a in a peaceful manner.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. And your character, Eric Beaumont, is, um, potentially inspired by a real-life negotiator, correct?

Luke Roberts Talks

Very much so. Um, a man called Laurent Combalbert. He's a French negotiator that he, um, operates around the world and he has, um, uh, a very tight unit rather like our our team in the show. And exactly so. He is, um, quite a quite an enigmatic character and I've really enjoyed getting to know him as part of the research process. And, um, yeah, my character is certainly inspired by him and his, uh, his experiences.

Young Hollywood

That's awesome. What does he think of the show?

Luke Roberts Talks

He seems to be quite giddy about it. He really enjoys it. I'm like, "This is awesome." Like, we've talked about sort of some potential parallels in our professions. And because to be a, um, you know, a top negotiator you have to be very present. Um, very much in the moment. And it's rather like being an actor. You have to learn your lines. You have to do your research. And then on the day, you kind of improvise and see what happens. But you have to be well prepared. And, and it was interesting the first time I met him, um, he and his partner, Marwan, his, um, working partner. They had their backs to the wall, sitting in the corner, drinking sparkling water and you can see their eyes just dodging to, you know, the, um, security cameras and the exits. And it was, and you go, "Wow, they're on duty around the clock." So, yeah, kind of a tough life. But thank God they're out there doing it because they're bringing a lot of people home safely.

Young Hollywood

One show that everyone is satisfied by and you appeared on is Game of Thrones. What was that like?

Luke Roberts Talks

It's across-the-board satisfaction, isn't it? It's mad that show. I mean, yeah, that was last summer. Um, I keep calling it my summer job but that's ridiculous. I mean, I was on Game of Thrones so yeah, no that was a thrill to to be asked to do that. And we filmed in Spain and, um, I I learned how to do quite an elaborate sword routine, um, from one of the best swordsmen in Europe. Um, Vlad, if you're paying attention, thank you so much. You made us look very good.

Young Hollywood

That's incredible. What a cool experience. Well, I have something incredible for you. We're going to play a little game. Okay. Um, So, there's the show. It's on CBS as well actually. And it's called Let's Make A Deal because this show that you're on is about negotiating. Let's make a deal. We're going to do something.

Luke Roberts Talks

Yeah, I know.

Young Hollywood

Um, so, this one is a game that they play on Let's Make A Deal. Basically they survey the audience and then the contestant has to figure out which the audience prefers. So, like this or that, you know. So, what I did is I surveyed the Young Hollywood team and you have to guess which one the general consensus votes for.

Luke Roberts Talks

I love it. Okay. So. You're very clear and concise. I wish you would. I'm the new I'm the new host, uh, Let's Make A Deal.

Young Hollywood

I know. Okay. So, pizza or sushi? What do you think we prefer here? We're in L. A. , sushi.

Luke Roberts Talks

Sushi. That was right. Yeah. I'm going to have to make sure I'm covering my answers. Yeah. You know. We're good.

Young Hollywood

Sweet or salty? No. Yeah. What about you? Are you sweet or salty?

Luke Roberts Talks

Sweet. Salty. Oh, God. You're salty.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I should have I should have recognized

Luke Roberts Talks

Fellow salty people. We're all salty here.

Young Hollywood

I know. I don't even know what we're talking about but I love it. Okay. Justin Bieber or Justin Timberlake? Kind of a trick question. This is Young Hollywood.

Luke Roberts Talks

Bieber.

Young Hollywood

It's Timberlake. Oh, God. Are you a Belieber?

Luke Roberts Talks

I'm not. I'm I'm a I'm a Timberlake person.

Young Hollywood

You're a Timberlake. Of course. Timberlake doesn't have like a fan army name, right? Cuz like Justin Bieber has like Beliebers. Yeah. What's Justin Timber Timberlake-ers? Lakers? Yes. Okay. Staying in or going out? What do we prefer?

Luke Roberts Talks

Um, mm. I had so much fun here just working. I reckon you just want to go home. So, staying in.

Young Hollywood

Staying in. That is that's the right answer. What about you? Are you staying in or going out?

Luke Roberts Talks

Oh, I'm torn between the two. My my lovely fiance and I, yeah, we we we wrestle with that. She likes to stay in. I quite like to go out. I I'm worried that I'm missing something.

Young Hollywood

Good to have that balance, right? Yes. Yeah. Well, for everybody that's staying in, be sure to watch Ransom. Thanks, guys.
