What's up, guys? Leslie here. Young Hollywood is on location at the iconic Television City Studios in Los Angeles, home of The Young and the Restless. Not only does yours truly have a role on the show, but I'm taking you behind the scenes. Miss Mandy. Oh my gosh, you're here. This is awesome. Hi, Rockstar. Mandy, you look so hot. Are you going to be on camera today? Like Well, I was earlier today. Thank you. I was the female bartender. I knew you looked familiar. You and I have met before. Let's just tell them, it's been a while. 2012. So, your job here, you have to dress four of the most stylish high schoolers on TV right now. Thank you. How do you get inspired every week? Okay, I know it needs to be hip and trendy, but I want to take it to another level. Tell me, the transition from then to now and what that means for your career as a fashionista. So, I'm just going to walk you through Yes. 10 days in the life of The Young and the Restless. So, we have a prep team that's prepping everything for the next day. Now, how much say does each actor get in what they're wearing? They have a say, but it's it's always really gentle and full of respect. By the way, my day here, they put the outfit on me. A few people were like, "Oh, that's so Mandy." That's so Mandy. That's so Mandy. If you had to tell, it's so her. My crew is so awesome. If we have to make like little quick changes, we always say, "What would Mandy do?" Oh, she would add a necklace, a wristband, or jewelry, you know, because accessories can make anything look dope. Exactly how big is this space? Because it's never-ending. It's everyone's dream. Come with me. I'm going to Look at this closet. This is crazy. Wow. Okay, so numbers-wise, how many pieces of wardrobe do you think exist on this stage? It's above 100,000, I swear. 100 It's nuts. 100,000 pairs of shoes. Just shoes alone. Just shoes alone. Mandy, I want to ask, who's been like the sexiest actress you've had to dress in a while? The sexiest and the funniest and Did someone There she is. I'm going to leave for a fitting. We're going to be back. See you later. And I love you. So, getting on a soap is every actress's dream. Walk me through the audition process. How you got here because you're kind of made for this role. Yeah, so I got the audition. And that day, I think I filmed like five different auditions. So, it was around midnight and I was like, "Oh, I have to do the one for The Young and the Restless." And I had a little glass of wine. I had so much fun. I got a call a couple of weeks later that they wanted to do the screen test. I tested on a Friday and I think by Monday or Tuesday. It was like a pretty fast turnaround. And I just couldn't believe it. Like I'm actually getting chills thinking about it because we work so hard as actors and we go on so many auditions and you never really know where where your next job is coming from. What does that mean to you? Your eyes are watering right now. I really genuinely love the craft of acting, so to be able to do it on such a grand scale now. It's such a blessing. Take me through a typical day in the life of a soap opera actress. Today, my call time was 6:30 in the morning. First thing I do is I go to hair or makeup. And then at 7:30 a.m. we start morning blocking. We're not shooting yet, we're just blocking the scenes. And by 8:35 in the morning, the cameras roll. So, you better be ready. What happens next? So, I have a little bit of a break, so I might get some lunch, and then I do have a couple of scenes later. And why don't I show you so you can meet some of the cast and we're stuck. I love stuff. Follow me. How do you as an actress build chemistry? There's things you can do like the triangle, for example. If you if I look at your eye, and then I look at the other eye, and then I look at your lips, you're going to think I'm into you. So, there's little techniques like that and there's if I look at your forehead, you might feel more self-conscious. And so I might use that if I have a scene where we're we're confrontational to make you feel uncomfortable. Daytime acting tips. Yes. They really do say that this is the best gig in Hollywood. Do you agree? Absolutely. I mean, we worked through the writer's strike. We worked through the fires. We worked through the pandemic. And I think to have such a consistent job, it's unheard of in Hollywood really. It is a pretty flexible job. We're not having 12-hour days. You get to have your life too and it's a great work-life balance. Is that Lucas? Is that Tamara? What are y'all doing in the prop room, huh? Take care of her. Bye. So, winning awards, being asked back in a new role. Walk me through what that feels like. I mean, it's amazing. First off, we've just been able to drive on to the gates every day and you have your own like scan card and like with your face on it. Yeah, it's weird. My my scan card has his face on it. So. Well, I made sure that everybody had my face just so they didn't forget me. Oh, so it's not just you and me. No. Well, speaking of faces, I mean, you guys lock lips quite often. What's your job as an actor to be open. And it it's almost always so good when you like somebody. They've a good heart. This one's got a great heart. Yeah. For ever. So, yeah, it was it was very easy to just kind of jump into that. I see some props, hardware, all all this stuff that was in my scene. Yes, this was all for you. This room is actually awesome. I want to shop in here. Yeah, well, you can. Okay, I'm going to borrow the bottle of wine. There you go. Look how far it goes back. I know. And that's all props. Glasses, tote bags over there. So, me, oh, lamps. Yeah, that's a fake rotary phone. You have we have a real one next to it though. Can you guys take me into Noah and Sena's relationship? What's surprised you the most about the two of you? There is like so there is an age difference between them. And I just love that they don't seem to let that get in the way. So, what are the fans buzzing about? Uh, I think it threw them for a loop, you know, realizing that, you know, we were mother and son at one point. No, we didn't. Um, And then they talk about how good we are. Okay, let's keep walking. Let's do it. see what we got. What are we going to see? What are we going to find? Oh, oh, okay. Hey, everybody needs a little ketchup on some fries, perhaps. Toilet paper. Um, I actually need toilet paper at home. Bamboo toilet paper. So, walk me through what's in your dressing room. What is a must have and what do you not want in it at all? I mainly make sure that I have some place I can sit down or lay down a little bit. Um, yeah, exactly. Any space I can sit down and put my feet up. And, you know what's so great about Y&R. We all have our own bathrooms. So, you don't have that on all soaps. Wait, you don't? No, you do not. It always comes back to the bathroom. Okay, well, speaking of dressing rooms, homie, meet Sean Dominic. on set. Okay, here you go, Sean. We got to go to set and. Okay. You need that for later. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Now that I'm with you, you're going to like show me around a little bit, but I don't think you want to take that with you. No, no, no, cuz I'm going to use this later. All right, let's do it. Walk me through your character. I am Nate Hastings. I went to med school and lo and behold, my cousin got mad at me for uh sleeping with his girlfriend and and punched me and messed up my hand. And so I got on board with my family's company. Began, behold, making up to the family. To this day, we're good. And right now, Vivica A. Fox is on. I love having her uh on the show, man. She brings just uh something so different that none of us have. This is the coffee shop where I order a bunch of coffee. That's a bed. I want to know I want to know your secret for building chemistry with 100 people staring at you. All these lights and you know you're going to be watched by millions of people. One of my things to to break through to meeting other people was was being silly. Hopefully, I can help make you look good by by listening and and giving you what you need as an actor. This is our little swinging door set right here, the athletic club. When you step towards the front and then you give that look the that that soap opera look. What's going on over here? Uh, right here, uh, this is uh, what I don't know about. He's going to tell you about this whole setup and what these guys are doing. Every day, the blocking, camera blocking, actor blocking changes depending on the director and what the action of the scene requires. So, we focus the lights to where they need to be, where we got to make sure we light people's faces and light the action of the scene. I just learned something. Looks like they're blocking a scene right now. Yep. And how far ahead do you do this before you film? So, there's two sets of blocking early in the morning. All the shots that are being shot before lunch, and then after all the scenes that are blocked after lunch. Uh, speaking of that, I have to make a move. I have to get to set. Okay. Yeah. And I think your next actor is waiting for you. Leslie, oh my gosh, come on in. Fabulous. Welcome. This is your home away from home. This is the new old Newman Ranch. I was on the show years ago and I played Abby Newman as a teenager. And there goes the leg. There goes the leg. That this is an active working set. This is a real play. Tell me around your set. This is the world's largest coffee table. Uh, everyone walks into it. It constantly has to be moved either upstage or downstage. This is another fun thing. Let's check it out. Usually, you'll find oh, here's one. scripts. That's genius. Yeah, you're just sitting here having a conversation. You have to check your lines. You can pull it out, check it, shove it back in. I have averaged out, I think, 20 pages a day. I see a bunch of sets. One set I see back there is my set. Should we go visit? Let's go to my set. Let's go to your set. Oh my goodness. It's so exciting. Your set. My set. It's like you never left. Oh my God, it actually feels really good to be behind the bar. Can I have a margarita? There's no strainer. I ordered that chunky Margarita. The lime is is not really fresh right now. Quite the experience. Madam. What do I owe you? That will be $100. I have 26. That's for you. Keep the change. Cheers to The Young and the Restless on Young Hollywood. Cheers to that. Cheers to that. I almost drank it. So did I. It's prop tequila. Don't drink it. It's water.
