Hey guys, I'm Brandy Chang hanging out in the Young Hollywood Studio with Sean Gunn.

Sean Gunn

Hi Sean.

Young Hollywood

Hi Brandy. Hi, how are you?

Sean Gunn

Hi Human. Hi.

Young Hollywood

I'm glad to have you here.

Sean Gunn

It's nice to be here. It's exciting.

Young Hollywood

We have you on our couch. We're kind of matching. It's a good day.

Sean Gunn

Yeah, I know. Our outfits are pretty well coordinated. Skirt matches. Yeah. Good job.

Young Hollywood

I want to talk about something really exciting. Gilmore Girls is coming back.

Sean Gunn

Yeah. Yes, it is exciting and fans are sort of losing their minds.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I remember when it came out and it took over all of my social feeds. People were so stoked on this, right?

Sean Gunn

Yeah, I keep getting asked if I'm returning and I am returning. So tell everyone that with authority.

Young Hollywood

You heard it here first people. Sean is returning to the show. Kirk is back.

Sean Gunn

Yes. Kirk is back.

Young Hollywood

Which is interesting because you originally started on the show as a like a small guest roll, right? And then you were so awesome. You killed it that they were like, we have to bring him here for.

Sean Gunn

I like I like to think of it that way. Yeah. I uh no, I I started as the DSL installer, which really shows my age and the show's age. I just kind of kept getting asked back to plug in these small rolls and over the course of a season or so, I developed this character that became part of the fabric of the town and ended up staying with the show for seven years. It was great.

Young Hollywood

I love that. Was it easy to return back to the roll or how do you get back into character for that?

Sean Gunn

Um, I you know to be honest with you, I was a lot more nervous setting foot on set when we returned, then I really imagined that I would be. You know, just because it was such a new experience. It'd been nine years since I'd gotten into the character's skin and there was a part of me that really wondered is this going to be like riding a bike. Am I just going to is Kirk going to just sort of come out of me? But then you get there walking in and seeing Luke Steiner and seeing, you know, the school and the church and the and all the other little shops in the neighborhood. Everything sort of flooded back to me pretty quickly. And then sure enough, yeah, Kirk was there. He was living inside of me this whole time. Unfortunately. And he came out. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Um, I don't know how to explain it, but there's a very unique technique I feel like that you guys use on the show in terms of acting. Do you know what I'm talking about? Like what is that? Can you explain that to me and maybe to viewers at home because it's it's unlike a lot of other shows, right?

Sean Gunn

Yeah. You mean the the technique of don't pause? No that the dialogue, yeah, right?

Young Hollywood

It's so unique you guys.

Sean Gunn

Um, yeah, I think it's one of the reasons I ended up on the show as long as I did was that I was a a fan of the old film comedies of, you know, Howard Hawks and Preston Sturges. You can see that rapid fire dialogue where no one's ever really pausing. And so I was comfortable in that world. Um, I think it's one of the reasons I I ended up being a good fit for the show. When it's so well written. You kind of can't help but start to fit into that mode. I was certainly told to slow down a lot in auditions. After the show was over and I got back out there and started auditioning again. People would be like, woah, woah, woah, slow down. You don't need to speak.

Young Hollywood

You're like, do you know what show I was on?

Sean Gunn

Yeah, it's like I can't help it. It's second nature. I know.

Young Hollywood

And one other role that you're going to be reprising is your role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes. Which is so amazing. That's another huge fandom. You know what I mean? Like are you getting so lucky with these uh, shows and movies?

Sean Gunn

I know. I don't know. I'm getting I know. I'm I I guess I know some of the right people. Um, yeah Guardians of the Galaxy. What an amazing experience. I've worked with my brother. I play the role of Kraglin. Just like with Gilmore Girls it it it it always lands at the writing. And so that's where when I really look at my career that's where I've been luckiest is that I've worked with magnificently talented people. Um, it makes my job, you know, so much easier.

Young Hollywood

You're very busy right now.

Sean Gunn

I'm trying to stay busy.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for stopping by here in your busy schedule.

Sean Gunn

Thanks for having me. I try to keep working. You never know when it's going to go away.

Young Hollywood

Well, I don't think it's going anywhere any time soon.

Sean Gunn

I appreciate that.
