I'm here on a tree stump with John Gallagher, Jr. and Brie Larson.
Hi.
Hello.
First of all, I wanted to talk about your tweets.
Yeah, what about them?
You're you're one of those. Wow, number one thing. I'm one of the tweeter. I'm going to want to top of the order is to talk about your tweet because you tweeted when you were on your way here. Does anyone know the bar if the bars at LAX are open 24 hours? My friend is curious. Yeah. You meant yourself, right?
No, a friend of mine wanted to know and I was going to go do research for him.
What's No, no. Brie is very responsible. Unlike me.
Um uh no, I was curious. I I and I found out it's 6:00 a. m. 6:00 a. m. is when the bars open.
Okay, okay. You learned that the hard way.
Yeah. 6:00. Crazy.
Yeah, you can't That's when it's reasonable to drink is it 6:00 a. m. Yes. So, your next tweet and then I'll lay off the tweets. I did not want to show one second before this interview and now I really know about what you're doing. I'm okay. Hello, Austin. This is my first time here. Highlights so far, both the cob salad and the nap I took at my hotel. So, things went downhill from LAX. Is that what you're going to tweet again?
No. I yeah, tonight will be like, it'll be like, Twitter account suspended. I'm never going to tweet again.
You're never going to tweet again. This is a lesson to you. Don't tweet. You'll regret it. You might get arrested. We're about your cop salad.
Well, the thing is that I like
How was the cop, by the way?
It was great. Fantastic. They have a really, they do a really at the Omni Hotel, they do a killer cob salad.
No. Don't tell people where we're at. But that's not where I'm staying.
Oh my god. Don't tell people where we are. I just went in there to get the cob salad and then I was and then I went to an undisclosed location.
Okay, got it. Good. Good one. Good one. Between the two of you, six movies here at South by Southwest. Can we get a round of applause from the hill? The film that you were in together Short Term 12, this is your first lead. This is this is big. Okay, so I'm going to quote I'm not going to quote your Twitter cuz she doesn't tweet, John. She's so smart. You've been making a lot of headlines. First of all, your film has been named one of the top films to see at South by Southwest. The LA Times said Brie Larson is everywhere. She is the it girl. And just when you thought you had her figured out, think again. How do you feel about that?
I know. Well, you heard it, you heard it from whoever said that.
John, can we address her her the headline just when you had Brie figured out? Do you have Brie figured out after working on this film together?
Not not close. Barely barely peel it away the first layer. Barely scratched the surface.
Um, Me too. No, there's there's so much I don't know. that we have yet to learn about each other. Now, it's weird cuz I'm talking about you in front of you and you're in front of me.
There is there is there is an element of of mystery and surprise to Brie that I think is one of the things that makes her so compelling on screen.
Oh, that's really nice.
Yeah, it's true. We shot for for about 21 days and when you're working with someone like Brie and with a director like Destin, who did it, you want it to last 121 days. And I would have done it for a lot longer.
So, I need to talk to you about two people before I let you go. First of all, the last time I spoke to you, we talked about our love for Craig Ferguson. Have you been back in the last year?
I haven't been back. I have another reason to be back. I mean, I'm not going to go just necessarily just like, "Hey, Craig."
I feel like he wants you to come and hang out.
He's the best. I mean, the thing that I appreciate so much about him is that we never talk about the project that I'm there to promote. It's not about me sitting here talking about myself. It's about me talking about the weird thing, like the DeLorean being parked in front of my house that like the day that I went to go do that interview. It's just like the craziest thing. I don't think I believe that. I went to yoga, came out, and the DeLorean was parked in front of my house. And everyone was going like, of course losing your mind. It's the actual Back to the Future DeLorean that was there.
Whoa.
And the guy who owns it walks out and he has this long hair. He comes out with a comb and just like, he's coming to me. He's like, "Yeah, that's my car."
Was it Christopher Lloyd?
I have it all. It's amazing. I gotta show me. It's amazing.
It's amazing. I saw the Ghostbusters, I saw the Ecto-1 recently on the I was on the Sony lot and I took a wrong turn and uh and I almost cried cuz the Ecto-1 was there. I don't know if it was the original, but it meant a lot to you?
Yeah, I mean, Ghostbusters, I've probably seen more than any film.
You two and your vehicles. And then the second person is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Mhm.
Don Jon. He was, well, we just interviewed him this morning. How was he?
He was delightful.
You were delightful in the film. I saw the film. Okay, thank you. Yes, you had a slight cell phone addiction.
Yeah, I mean, I don't talk in the movie.
Well, you do have one great speech at the end and you make up for it. But biggest addiction of the two of you have. Oh, a big addiction?
Yeah, coffee. Mhm. This film that we did together really coffee became a problem.
Did you see that? You I remember you drink a lot of coffee.
It was constant.
What's your vice?
I have a I have a problem with sweets. I have to be really, I can't like like chocolate chip cookies and like peanut butter cups.
Where where are you heading? What's the music scene going to be? We're going to see Spring Breakers. Which has been a very anticipated film.
I'm really excited. Highly anticipated.
Why? Why in particular?
I love Harmony Korine. Um, I think it's absolutely brilliant. I think that it's an incredible opportunity for those girls and I'm excited to see them in something. And I think that from what I hear, it's an incredible ride. Um, so I think it's great for all of them involved. So, I'm excited to celebrate with them at the show.
So, we should go out with a go Selena. Go Selena.
Go Selena.
