Young Hollywood

I'm joined by the lovely, Karen Gillan.

Karen Gillan

I didn't try it.

Young Hollywood

You, come on. Give it to me in a Scottish accent. Karen Gillan.

Karen Gillan

Pretty good.

Young Hollywood

Try again.

Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan.

Young Hollywood

Karen Gillan. That was amazing.

Karen Gillan

Is that good?

Young Hollywood

I'm proud of you. Doesn't you don't It doesn't sound as attractive as when I say it. When you speak in a Scottish accent it's lovely. When I speak I feel like a giant person.

Karen Gillan

Yeah, giant. Giant. Giant person.

Young Hollywood

I'm joined by John Cho. How are you sir?

John Cho

Hey, good.

Young Hollywood

Looking as handsome and dapper as ever.

John Cho

Oh, well thank you very much.

Young Hollywood

Always, always. Thank you. I was fishing for that compliment. This is going very well. This is going very well. And on notes of looking good and being confident in that man. A selfie. Yes. We're on the set of Selfie. Um but the show's about Eliza. She's a she's a she's a very famous on social media. Like a lot of people are nowadays. You're right, right, right. Um But doesn't really know how to deal with regular life. Right, right. And she comes to you for help.

Karen Gillan

That's right. So she comes to me for help to make her a more, I think in my eyes, respectable person. Someone who's engaging in the real world versus the online world. And the line is fuzzy for her. As it is for a lot of people. Right. And she's more interested in getting likes on Facebook than she is in engaging with people.

John Cho

Henry says maintaining eye contact makes people think you're listening to them. Even if what you're really thinking about is whether or not Jay and Yan have a pri. What are your thoughts on that?

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Of course they have a pri. There's a billion dollars on the elevator.

Young Hollywood

I see. Eliza has trouble interacting with people in real life but she gets a lot of attention online. Right. Um so that's why she goes to Henry to ask him to sort of teach her how to communicate with people better. What's the best characteristics of Sha that you love?

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

I love that she is that go-to girl. That people can talk to about anything. She'll give you her her opinion. Okay. But she doesn't judge you. I mean, kind of, but.

Young Hollywood

She'll tell me She'll give you a side eye. Okay. But

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Give me the side eye. Right.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, that's that's the side eye. That's I don't want to get that. That's actually my go-to face. I don't want to get that. Okay. Thankfully, I haven't seen that yet. Can you take me on a tour? Can we go on a tour? Let's. We're going to go on a tour of the set of Selfie. Let's do it. What's this first

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Ta-da! This is the break room. This is this is a good room. It's a real real life vending machine. These items here are actually treats that are only in the North East. These are called crimpets. So

Young Hollywood

Sell me on it. Sell me on the crimpet.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

It's basically like a vanilla cake that has this butterscotch icing on top. Okay. And it comes in three and they're like little crinkly as a fun shape. Really really good. I used to have these when I was.

Young Hollywood

And how does it make you feel?

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Amazing. Little elephant biscuits on the wall.

Young Hollywood

Oh, yeah, those are gummy bears.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Oh, they're gummy bears. Because this is Kindercare Pharmaceuticals. And so

Young Hollywood

It's for children.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Yeah. It's for we brand children. That says children.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. I looked at that and I was like, how friendly it brought me back to my youth. Yeah. It's like Baabar. Baabar. Do you remember Baabar? I love Baabar.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

So this is called the bullpen. Okay. And so these are all the sales representatives cubicles.

Young Hollywood

Whose cubicle do you think? Sounds very personal. Sounds like a personal question.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

I would guess it is Eliza's. Ding ding ding. It's fun 'cause we all look at magazines together. And we're like, pull out stuff that we like. She'll have a little snack. Sometimes she'll have a Luna Bar in here. No, not this time.

Young Hollywood

Luna bars. They're they're they're that's like a female protein bar, isn't it? Is that right?

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Young Hollywood

I don't know if that's a good thing to have or not. I don't know. Bit shiny. But like will you grow boobs or something if you ate a lot of them?

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

You know what, true story that did cross my mind.

Young Hollywood

If you could if you could take a selfie with anyone in the world. And they can be dead or alive. Obviously alive they're going to look better in the picture. Who would it be?

John Cho

You know what? Here, how about Jesus? Because

Young Hollywood

This is a good one. It's a good one. This is a strong one.

John Cho

Because I think there's a lot of controversy about what he looks like. We can clear that up with a photograph.

Young Hollywood

It's only if your question come true. Yeah. We could have just cleared up religious views in the world. Oh. You can't make it. No, it was just a question. Wasn't a promise.

Karen Gillan

I want to say Elvis Presley.

Young Hollywood

That's a good one.

Karen Gillan

Frank Sinatra.

Young Hollywood

No, I'll give you one. Oh, only one. Don't get carried away. Only one. You've got Elvis. You've missed Frank. What a shame.

Karen Gillan

But I okay, fine, fine. I'll take Elvis.

Young Hollywood

Take Elvis.

Karen Gillan

I feel like I should have gone more historical though.

Young Hollywood

Too late. Like Jesus. Oh, you did you did did you speak to John? No. Did he say Jesus? He did say Jesus. We're spending a lot of time together. This is kind of cool.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Okay. It's actually a timeline of how Kindercare Pharmaceuticals all got started. Wow. I thought that was kind of a cool detail in here. Oh there's little letters as well. Did we get these little

Young Hollywood

Uh The little letters. Prescriptions. Did you see this? No. Yeah, look. Um Does that say sulfur? I thought it said syphilis.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Oh, probs. It was rough times back then. This is where uh the boss will bring everyone when it's time for them to brand a new concept. Okay. But who really excels in this room Right. is Henry, John Cho's character. Okay. And that's why Eliza even notices how amazing he is as a brander. And that's why she says, hey, I'm not so good a person. Brand me and make me better. Right.

Young Hollywood

And why don't I hold onto your phone for the selfie meeting. Sure. Let me just Oh, yours. You could have just said no. Were you a selfie taker before the show?

John Cho

Um here and there, but I I it's okay there are enough pictures of me in the world.

Young Hollywood

This is true. That exists. This is true. Mostly doing this. Right. Right. bars. Right. Um Or just a little bit hang on the side, a little bit more. Yeah. Like this.

John Cho

I don't really um take that many selfies. Cuz I feel slightly awkward taking a selfie. I don't know what to do with my face. Okay. So I do this every time. Okay.

Young Hollywood

I can get why you get awkward. It's like startled expression.

John Cho

I think like looks cool when then every time I realize that it doesn't.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

And this is what I think is most people's favorite. The coffee machine. This bad boy right here.

Young Hollywood

That's a bad boy.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

Do you see how many options we have? There's even a chai on there. There's even a chai. Chai latte. This is modern. This is like 2000.

Young Hollywood

It's When I first came to work here I was like, really? Yeah. Right. Yeah.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph

This bad boy makes everyone happy.

Young Hollywood

This is nice. Goodness. It's really good. Okay. It's really good. Starbucks has nothing on us. It's really good. We can wrap this up. That's great. And cut. I've got my coffee.
