Welcome to Younghollywood. com. Hey, guys. It's Michelle Marie with Young Hollywood. Today we're bringing you to the set of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Today's guest is Adam Carolla. Let's see if he has what it takes. He is a comedian and host of the Adam Carolla Show and he's been this whole time television show. Please welcome Adam Carolla.
Such an amazing show to be on. How do you feel about today?
Uh, well, you know what? I can say Adam is the most fun show that I can remember doing in a long, long time. Welcome to the show! He makes me laugh. Wow, look at me. What's the story there?
I was actually, uh, I was 28 there. I was playing my third pro ball.
Wow! He makes me gut laugh. But usually as a comedian, if you're on stage talking and the comedians are laughing in the back of the room, that's not a good sign. Because usually the comics love it, stuff nobody else laughs at. So do you think Adam is smarter than Jimmy Kimmel?
Oh, yeah, definitely. We're beyond a shadow of a doubt. Who isn't smarter than Jimmy Kimmel? Come on.
So, tell me a typical day for you because I know you shoot several shows throughout the day.
Uh, we will shoot in about five weeks, we'll shoot 170 episodes of this. We do about eight a day. I come in in the morning and, uh, we'll shoot four and then we'll break for lunch and shoot four more. Usually start about 9:30 or so and finish up about 6:30 at night. But the cool thing about it is then in five weeks I'm done for the year. So I do stand up the rest of the year and write books. Of everything I do, I still consider myself a stand up more than anything else.
So it kind of frees up the rest of your time. What are these 5th graders like to work with?
Well, they're way smart. They're a lot smarter than I was at that age. And I think it's, you know, because of the internet and computers and things, it's like they just have more information than we had. Why do I still remember all the lyrics to the Gilligan's Island theme song, but I remember nothing about triangles, it's gone.
I know. Can you name the seven continents? Oh, eventually. I'm gonna ask you a random question. Will you ever ever shave the mustache off?
You know what, my kids were asking me that. I, I started growing this between the 11th and the 12th grade. My wife and I have been together for 26 years. She's never seen me without it. Oh my God. I don't know that I have a lip anymore. This might be nose hair. TJ's locked in his answer. Um, I don't know anything about Greek mythology. Although I did see that movie, Beastmaster, a number of times.
Uh, tonight, I have to say, you did a pretty good job. I don't know about these 5th graders. I mean, they're a big challenge.
Yeah, they're a little pain in the butt, those kids. Hampered, look at them over there. I know. Look at that. Getting your hair done. Getting your cuticles pushed around. You getting nervous yet?
I saw that you brought the towel up on stage with you. Was that because you were sweating and nervous and, and you couldn't even handle it? Were, were these guys sweating you?
Yeah, I really, I really thought that I was going to pit out up there, you know what I'm saying. And I just thought I'd be mopping my brow the whole time. It turns out the makeup held up as you can see.
I want to know what you were like in 5th grade.
I hated it. I just sat there. I just sort of waited for, you know, recess where I could run around and kick a utility ball. And, uh, I was, uh, one of the recipients of the lunch ticket program. So it's a very nutritious pizza shaped in a as a square. Some corn dogs and some green beans that were sort of, uh, vintage Korean War conflict.
Vintage green beans. Wow! Sounds very interesting.
Yeah. You know, vegetables when they stopped being vegetables, like there's no nutritional content here. They're falling apart. They've been soaked in this can for 25 years.
Yeah. So you're happier with your adult life, I guess. You get fed well nowadays.
Yes, thank you for calling me fat.
Hi, I'm Adam Carolla and, uh, you can see me on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Thank you.
