Welcome to Young Hollywood. What's up, X-gamers? It's Michelle Marie coming to you from the dirt here at X-games 16. We're gonna give you an all access pass here at the LA Coliseum. I'm here with the winner tonight here at X-games 16 with Travis Pastrana. Congratulations on your win. How do you feel?
I feel so good. This was another. I just hope to come out here and have fun and uh it worked out. It worked out great.
So what made you decide to do the double flip out there?
Uh, kinda progression. I mean, I just really wanted to. I mean, Ken Sclatter's done it in a run, but no one's ever done it in a run at X-games. I said, you know what? I'm gonna come out here, we gotta do something and uh it was such a close close battle that I wanted to just do something on top of it.
You've proven you're a legend now and your fans are just growing and growing. How do you feel about this moment right here because you've had such a tremendous career?
Uh, this couldn't be any better, honestly. I'm just uh all my friends and family's here, the Nitro crew and Uh, you know, a month ago on a shoulder surgery, I didn't think this was gonna be possible. But I'd like to thank my doctor Dennis as well. Thank you.
I'm here with Josh Grant with his bike as we are holding this up right before the big Super X-race. How are you feeling today?
I feel good. You know, yesterday went well for us. We got a lot of practice in. Track looks good. Kinda cool to be at this uh you know, this center better than Home Depot. So, I'm pretty stoked.
Yeah. The Coliseum is legendary for motocross. It's awesome.
Yeah, I know. The last time I was here, a long time ago when uh Deegan won his first Supercross race. So, it's probably been like 10 years for me. Crazy.
You've been in the game for a very long time. What is about X-games that you most love? This is the 16th year.
Uh I just like the environment, man. The people here are really cool. It's really laid back. It's fun to be around everyone and, you know, it's a lot different than racing and uh doing Supercross, so For me, it's uh just, you know, a cool vibe and I I you know, I enjoy it.
What is what are the essentials that you have to bring as a rider?
All you got to bring is your A-game, really.
You brought it, didn't you?
Yeah, I'm bringing it.
Good, good. So, what are we gonna see out on the course today because there's a lot of really competitive riders that you have to go up against?
Yeah, hopefully, the track stays pretty good for us, you know? Other than that, I think it should be a good battle. But uh if it's dusty, it's gonna be hard to pass and that's gonna be the toughest thing. So, You know, we got a couple guys that are riding really good right now and, you know, it's just gotta be getting a good start and stay up front.
So, how do you stay hydrated before you go out there?
Uh, we've been drinking a lot of water trying to get everything, you know, situated for this race.
So, what are the essentials that you have to have as a rider before you actually go out there and compete if you were to think of a few things that you have to have?
Uh, my head in the right place. Uh, need to have all my gear, everything you know, everything everything in order to uh go out there and make it happen. I don't I don't really know. I guess uh have my vitamins, have my family here and I think that's enough done.
I know you said you you have your family and your vitamins. That's important, right?
Very big for me.
I know that you said you have to stay hydrated. So, what do you do as an athlete to stay hydrated before your game?
It's crazy how much water you drink and whatever. But I mean, all these like little bit of protein drinks and whatever. I'm no muscle guy. I'm I'm a skinny ass myself but uh Yeah, I don't know. It's so hot. So, it's definitely just keeping up on the water or whatever. There's times where I don't I don't know. It's crazy how much you just gotta keep going, keep going when you don't even want to look at water anymore.
You're super relaxed and you seem very confident that, you know, you're going in this huge race. How do you keep your mind intact? I mean, you're about to race in about an hour.
I just think positive. I I know what I've been training for and I'm not gonna change the way I do things. I mean, this is what I'm set to do. This is this is what I've trained for my whole life. So, I mean, I don't look at it as, oh, am I gonna three peat. I look at it as another race. I'm gonna attack it and this is I want to be here. I want to win, you know? That's that's what I come here to do. So.
Congratulations on the medal. Silver medal you won it Super X. How do you feel about your win?
Obviously, I wanted to be the the gold medalist, but uh two years in a row now being silver. It's cool. I'm just uh just glad to be here and glad to be a part of X-games. It's a great feeling.
What do you do to stay focused? What are maybe the three essentials that you have to have with you as an athlete before you go out there for a big race like this?
I think what a lot of people overlook is the physical part of racing motorcycles. It's uh very physically demanding. And then the mental side of it too. That's one thing that a lot of riders struggle with. They're very good in practice or they can do certain things and you get to the race and uh it's very competitive, obviously, and and uh they kind of buckle. So, I think the physical part of it, the mental part of it's huge and just being ready to race.
How do you stay hydrated before anything?
You go into the weekend dehydrated, you know, you're you're already behind the eight-ball. So, uh being hydrated during the week and uh, you know, recovery is obviously a huge part of it too. We train all week and then we have to be 100% on Saturday on the weekend. And if you don't if you're not recovered properly, you're not gonna be good on Saturday. So, that's definitely a huge part of it.
Josh Grant. Just wanna give a shout out to Young Hollywood.
