What's up, guys? Young Hollywood is joined today by racing royalty, Mr. Ryan Dagan and his awesome daughter, NASCAR's newest, brightest, shiniest star, Hayley Deegan.
It's in your blood, to say the least. You guys live it, breathe it, eat it, sleep it. Racing, gas. It's all it's all there. Yeah. Yeah. Growing up racing motorcross was something that was in my blood. I was able to carry it on into car racing and I knew once Hayley was born, I was like, my kids are going to have to race. And so I, you know, but you can't make that decision for them. And Hayley fell in love with it at a young age. And I grew up Yeah. Eight years old and grew up around a racetrack and and then, um, you know, just started racing and getting faster and faster, and started beating all the boys, and started winning all the championships, and and it snowballed really quick for sure.
What do you think a female driver brings behind the wheel that a male driver doesn't have that you kind of maybe have a one up on him?
I feel like maybe a little patience. I feel like maybe a little I feel like I'm a little more Women are more crafty. Crafty. Yeah. Crafty with my work. Yeah. I know I know when to pick and choose my battles. I know when to stick my nose in there. I know when to kind of come back out. It's just kind of you have to I'm a little more crafty with my decisions. Not just full sand into like the full pileup.
Nice. So while you guys had a little break from racing, I wanted to keep you safe but I also wanted to do something fun with you. So I brought you to a place called Go-Kart World. But we're not going to go in go-karts. I wanted something safer, but still get you behind the wheel. Okay, here we are.
Yeah.
An official bumper car track. I chose the blue one. Okay, let's let's do this. I think we got an intense seat belt system. Five point harness. There you go. Okay. So this goes under your arms, I assume.
I wouldn't put it there. Is this? Yeah. I don't know about that. If you roll off, it'll just drag you. You're good. I'm sure that's going to do. Wait, is this really the serious
We can here tie it. So I got the the manly pink car over here. Oh my God! I think I think You're going to win. Hey now. And Hayley wins! You won.
I won!
You're a woman, you're coming into a sport that is male dominated. Danica Patrick has kind of paved the way already. What are you bringing to the table now as the next female star in NASCAR?
Yeah, I feel like ever since she retired, um, last year or this past year, I feel like they've been really needing a girl to come in. It's kind of perfect timing. We're like kind of switched spots real quick. I'm kind of developing to come in. I haven't really uh, made it to her level yet, but we're getting there. We're working on it. It's going to take a lot of work. And I feel like she has done a lot for the sport. She has gone to a certain extent, but I feel like there's a lot further that I myself want to do, and I'm going to work hard to try to do. And I feel like it's definitely a goal that can be accomplished in the future, and I feel like if I keep working as hard as I am now, I feel like we can get, surpass what she's done. On top of what she's done.
Cuz you're a father, you want to protect your kids. Oh, yeah. How do you kind of put that aside and say, okay, go forth and uh, be in a really, really dangerous sport.
I, you know, that's something I think about all the time, you know, coming from freestyle motocross and X-games, you know, breaking over, you know, over 15 surgeries, losing organs, multiple broken bones. I thought, man, I really don't want my kids to have to go through that. And that's why with Hayley, I mean, she started on a dirt bike. I thought that was important for her to understand how to how to ride a dirt bike. But then she went right into race cars, roll cage, uh, so much safer in in a car racing. And you know, you still have your dangers. You can catch on fire. You can still happen. Fire is a lot. Yeah. But overall, car racing's, I mean, way, way, way safer.
Obviously, I'm sure you look to your dad for some of the best advice in the business. Oh, yeah. What kind of advice does he give you? What do you want to pass down to her?
It's funny cuz my dad always tells us before a race and stuff, like when you're spotting me and on the radio, he's always like, go out there and have fun. He's like, remember, you're having the most fun when you win. So I like always it's like It may be like a little like, okay. But like, people understand you are having the most fun when you win. You're not having the most fun when you're in second. You're having the most fun when you win.
When you win. Yeah. That's part of the game. Yeah. Now, what happens when you don't win, you come in second or third? I mean, you figure out what you did wrong to win next time. It's a learn it's a learning deal, right? Like any time you don't win, I'm always against, oh, just pack your stuff up and head home. No. We sit down, take notes, watch video and go, okay, what happened? How did that guy beat us or you know, what did you do to get past here? And you study from those notes so you don't come back and make the same mistake twice. At the end of the day, you know, we're teaching life lessons of like paving new roads, things that haven't been done before. You know? So for us, yes, it's life lessons of of constantly working towards your goals and accomplishing them. I mean, it is. Every every day in racing is is a is a life lesson for sure.
Ladies and gentlemen, awesome. Awesome. The winner of bumper cars, Miss Hayley Deegan!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
And you know what this means. Cut the track. Wait, you know what this means? She won bumper cars. She's winning the NASCAR Cup. Yeah. That's for sure. I would say it's a big step. But, okay. She's got it. We can, whoa, yeah.
