Welcome to YoungHollywood. com. I'm Oliver Trevena here with Young Hollywood at Universal Records for an exclusive acoustic performance by Canadian sensation, Shilo.
Here we go. Operator, operator, don't call me. I'll call you later. Operator, operator, I'm just fine. I'll call you later. Why would I wanna be anybody else but me? I'm never gonna fake it. Why would I ever be anybody else but me? I know I'm gonna make it.
We just had the exclusive performance of "Operator," your smash hit single. That's from your album Picture Imperfect. Where does that title come from?
I was sitting down one day and one of my friends was saying, "Oh, that's so picture perfect." And I was like, I was thinking, you know what, nothing's perfect. Why not, why don't we say that's so picture imperfect? So I thought Picture Imperfect, and then I sat down and I was like, I'd like to name my album that.
And how did this start for you? Music? Been doing it all your life, because you're you're only 16 years old, it's crazy.
I've been doing competitions all of my life. I started out singing country. I did a competition in Edmonton, and it allowed me to meet my managers. They introduced me to Universal Music, and it just took off from there.
Doesn't get much bigger than that, does it? Universal. Who inspired you growing up? I mean, obviously you mentioned you sung country, and now it's a very pop-punk sound.
Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion. Frank Sinatra because that's where my heart lies. And Celine Dion, she's amazing. She's worked really hard to get where she is, and her voice is phenomenal.
Nice. Well, they were probably the two last expected answers that I thought you'd give, and I'm sure the viewers were thinking the same, but that's great because it obviously shows that you have so much diversity to your music. I noticed on the album, a couple of tracks like "Ruin Me" and "Goodbye You Suck," quite aggressive, do they come from any experiences yourself?
"Goodbye You Suck" was about a guy that was kind of just straight out jerk. And then "Ruin Me" was kind of like a time in my life where I didn't know where I was going or how I was gonna get there, or what I was gonna do while I was there.
Where would you like to go? What's your dream?
I just got off tour just recently and I love doing a show every single night. The adrenaline rush of the first few seconds of going on stage. If you can survive it, then you've got nerves of steel. A lot of people ask me that, they're saying, "Well, do you get nervous between these, before these events?" And not at all. It's what I love to do, and I wanna be doing it for the rest of my life.
what's next in store? Any tours coming up? You've just done shows with Lady Gaga, which that's pretty crazy, insane. She's blowing up everywhere in the world right now.
She is. I'm really, um, I'm really insanely impressed with her. She's, um, she's looking great, she's sounding great.
What advice can you give to other people out there to achieve their dreams and following your footsteps?
You just, you need to travel, get into competitions. Um, don't expect to get paid the shows that you're gonna do when because when you're starting out, a lot of bands are like, "Oh, dude, but I I don't wanna do it 'cause we're not getting paid." I'm like, "Just do it because in the end, it's worth it."
There you go. Well, that's great for me too, 'cause I'm only 17. So I'm gonna take that advice. Why are you laughing? You look great.
I just matured for my age because I've traveled a lot, so.
Hi, this is Shilo and I am not Brad and Angelina's daughter, but you can get my single "Operator" on iTunes right now. Go check it out.
