YouTuber & Punk Rocker Jake Webber Reveals His Musical Inspo

That's right. Talk to me about you. Content creator, YouTuber, musician, you have a number of titles.

I think of myself as a YouTuber first, and then since people followed me on YouTube, I feel like they give me the chance to be able to do other things.

So, before we get to the music, take me back to Kansas. To LA, cuz that's like Kansas LA night and day. How did you even get here?

Yeah. Okay. So, I lived in a really small town, 1500 people. I always felt like I wasn't meant to be there, and I like it sounds kinda cliche, but I just couldn't think of a job that would make me happy there. And I always dreamed about being in LA cuz I I loved film, I loved music. I just wanted to be like something more. When I watched TV, I just like wanted to be in that world.

So, how did you even start in this world? Because you didn't know anyone.

Yeah. Yeah. I Well, I I started posting online and I just tried to gain a following there. But at the same time, it was like isolating me from Kansas because a lot of people there just didn't really understand the world of social media. Of course. And it just made me wanna like leave more. I met some friends that were from Kansas City. Sammy Kobe. So, I started to make friends slowly better in this world, and then, yeah, 19, I quit my job at Jimmy John's and I tried to come here.

Let's taco. Let's taco about it. Huh! Now, you you mentioned your buddies. You've collabed with some incredible people. How do you choose who to collab with?

I realized that just collabing with anyone doesn't really matter. Sometimes, even if someone is really cool, people don't wanna see me and them if we don't really vibe that well. Yeah. So, I usually just try to stick it to people that I think are on the same wavelength as as me. And Sammy and Kobe were just like, we we we bonded really well and people like that content a lot.

And so, let's talk about your music.

Was that always a passion of yours that was just waiting to come out? To do music. Yeah, and you were waiting for the right time?

I always wanted to do music, but I was always scared to because I feel like music is just a vulnerable thing because whenever you put out a song, it's like, okay, this is like their best effort at making something. With YouTube, I can make like a bad YouTube video and it's like, whatever. But it's like with music, it's like, okay, this is his idea of like his best work. And if it's not good, then it's embarrassing. So, I was scared to do it.

Talk about the EP and the new single.

Yeah, I just dropped a single. I then I dropped an EP. It's called, "Love Me While You Can." I was like sitting on it for so long, and I literally just went to my computer and uploaded it. It starts off like very in your face, metal guitars, and then it gets pretty much like stripped, more of like a sad feeling.

Okay, so walk me through the process with your music. When did you say, okay, now's the time?

I was doing like joke songs with my friends. That was kinda like my introduction, is just like doing fun music, and then I pretty much wiped all that and I started making real music. It's hard like with music, it's just like it's just like a vulnerable thing for me, so usually it's just like me and another person in a studio.

What inspires you then to write?

Just like my feelings, cuz I feel like I don't talk about my feelings that much, so I just like to write them out.

So, is it the music first and then the lyrics or lyrics and music?

It's it's the lyrics first and the melodies and then I have someone write the instrumental around it. Whenever I write, I like to do it on a treadmill at the gym.

And what about your instruments?

I wanna learn the guitar so bad. I realized that I should have picked it up when I was younger because it takes so much work. I did like 10 sessions. I don't think I learned anything. It just makes no sense to me, like in my mind.

Very crunchy. What about cities and food, best and worst in in all those categories?

Oh, okay. My favorite place for food is LA. I I've been to so many places and it's just like it's just because it's it's it's so mixed. There's so much stuff you can get, you know. They have good Mexican food here. They have, um, well, good American food. Obviously, but uh, yeah, I've been so many places, but I guess I like I like LA the most.

Where's your go-to spot?

My go-to spot, Wingstop.

I've actually never been.

Really? Oh, it's so good. It's like its own category. I like boneless. I don't like bone-in. This is ranch.

Okay. Wow. Okay. But don't they have Wingstop in every city?

Well, I got oh LA. Okay. I know, yeah.

unique to LA. I like Tau. I like Tau.

Oh, of course. Of course.

When you show up at Tau, are you swarmed?

I never get swarmed there. I mean, I I'm kinda people watching when I walk in to see who else is there.

Really? What's it like when you walk around? Because you are a presence. You're super tall, you're Jake. Everyone knows you.

And my hair used to be red. That was that was a bigger giveaway.

So, how do you even walk around LA without being noticed and stopped?

At one point, it never happened and then I noticed it started to get a little crazy when I would go somewhere like Home Depot and I would take pictures. So, I usually I'm usually like hoodie up, hat on. I don't mind getting stopped. When it gets overwhelming, it like freaks me out. Like I I don't go somewhere like Disney or anything like that often.

Okay. So, let's talk about creating content because obviously everyone is doing it, but you've kinda found this niche. It's your own thing. How does one create epic content like you do?

I think that I've tried every single thing. People really like when I just go to like Target and shop. Yeah. Because I genuinely like to do that, you know. We try to go down empty aisles whenever we talk cuz we would get embarrassed.

Can you walk me through some of your tattoos, please? I know we can't see them all right now.

Tattoos, yeah. Not many of them have a story. I mean, a lot of them do, but it's like when you get so many, what can you attach to?

Walk me through the ones that have sentimental.

Okay. Well, I got this one from my mom because since we live in Kansas, the only thing you can really do is go to the gas station. So we'd get Popes like all day, every day. Soda. Yeah. Popes. Yeah. That's what we call in Kansas. I like this one a lot. It just says nobody. It's like my own grave line. And I have another one that says, J. W. right there. Yeah, like I don't know, like uh, I have a unicorn.

What's next? What's next?

I wanna do my back. I wanna finish my whole back. But it takes it hurts really bad. Like people do like 12 sessions for it. A lot of people like go under. They go to sleep to get it done. It's crazy.

How are you with pain?

Hurts. It like it never

I know. The man who wants to get his body filled with tattoos.
