We don't pluck our eyebrows. Do you pluck your eyebrows?
No, we don't pluck our. I did once a long time ago. It was weird. That was done. Yeah. We're no more that. It was weird.
Pre-band? Was that pre-band? Was that pre-band or post-band?
It might have been at the beginning of the band.
Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood taking you backstage at the Hollywood Bowl with The Fray. I am here with Isaac Slade and Joe King of The Fray. Hi guys.
Hey what's up? Hello.
I'm watching your. Is this your sound check that's going on right now? Are we missing that right now?
This is the sound check. Wow. We you guys are special so we're pushing sound check back for you.
Wow. This is major props. Let's mention that we are backstage at the Hollywood Bowl. This is your first time performing here.
Yes, first time being here actually.
Really?
It's crazy. Crazy.
I kind of didn't picture, like I've been here many times. I didn't picture the Hollywood Bowl backstage to be so clean. I kind of figured it would be like outside, like you know?
Yeah, yeah. No, I got a little freaked out. I walked on stage and like as we were driving up I read the Wikipedia page to see who else has played here. That didn't help. I freaked out even more.
Did it make you nervous?
Yeah. I don't know why I did that. That was the stupidest thing.
So who was like the most wow person?
Uh Billy Holiday. Probably. Shortly followed by the Beatles. No biggie.
Hmm. Ain't nothing. It'll be just fine following following those acts, right? I know a lot of your songs. There's always a story behind the song. And I know you guys have been on tour for a little bit. So I want a bit of a story behind the tour. Any good stories so far?
Bit of a story behind the tour. Yeah, well we played Vegas last um and I lost some pre-DMs um on the table after that.
Did you? So after the show you're hitting, like are you a high roller?
I don't like to give money away so I just, you know, have fun and. But uh no.
Lucky?
What's that? Lucky?
I got lucky. He kinda gives money away.
Now I know who the biggest flirt in the band is. I was gonna ask that later but let's just say that we already know. So you're touring with Kelly Clarkson.
Yeah.
I know you've toured with U2 in the past. Who drinks more Guinness? Bono or Kelly?
Kelly by far. She's she knows how to put it away actually. She does. The girl drinks. No, I don't know. She drinks. Actually, no, she drinks. She uh she made me a drink two days ago and uh she's like, try this drink. This is so good. And it's like this um sake infused vodka. And literally it was like I was drinking like a birthday cake. I was like, It's like, no, it's really really good.
That's a girl thing. Yeah. So Scars and Stories, I know it came out earlier this year. And then I heard I read an article that said your next album's probably gonna come out a lot sooner than your albums have in the past. That you're hoping for next year. Is that sort of still the case?
If we can write the songs, we haven't really done that yet. So we're gonna do that.
Did you have like 70 songs on your last album? Can't you just sort of like, you know? Just whip it out.
That's what we're gonna do. For every.
Again, the biggest flirt of the band. Vegas style. We're gonna whip it out and throw down. Oh, you're so cute.
Oh thank you.
Little thing. So I have a little tour sort of slash band game for you guys. Just sort of get to know the band better.
Okay, game. Awesome.
Round one. Are you guys ready?
We're against each other then.
You're against each other. Who's good at foosball? You may have to demonstrate this one.
Don't look at me. I'm not looking at you.
Who is better at ping-pong?
Oh, Joe is. He's turned around for that one.
Oh, I'm. I saw on your Twitter like a ping-pong. It's like the Fray on it. There's a ping-pong. Do you travel with it? And you have your own?
Oh, yeah. Oh yeah. I request that thing. I mean, it's really what keeps me sane on the road, so. Relatively sane. Yeah. Yeah, he's a killer ping-pong player.
What is your favorite place on the road to grab some post-concert grub? In any city, in any country? Yes. You have to basically narrow it down to the fave, the band's fave.
For me it's uh Memphis, Tennessee because you can get Rendezvous barbecue delivered right to the venue. And that big old tray comes out and just like steaming meat. Yeah. That's the best.
Who spends most time in front of the mirror getting ready for going on stage?
Hmm. Kelly Clarkson. Actually, she's gorgeous. I would say I Backpedaling. Big time. I love you, Kelly. I bought one of your t-shirts. And thanks for the cake drink. I shave my head in the mirror. And that takes, you know, that takes like 10 minutes or something. Is that. Does that. Do you spend more than 10 minutes in front of the mirror? I I have a yeah, that's kind of a weird thing. I don't know I think for guys the the mirror, the bathroom thing is like a transition. Like you just like, okay, we get it. Like you're you need to move on quickly from that place. Yeah. You know, I think girls it's like, oh, it's a it's a kind of a home place. It's like, this is my home. It's a resting place. Yeah. So yeah, I think I think all of us are kind of like, okay, you know, you gotta transition through that.
You're normal guys, basically. We don't pluck our eyebrows. Do you pluck your eyebrows?
No, we don't pluck our eyebrows. I did once a long time ago. It was weird. That was done. Yeah. We're no more that. It was weird.
Pre-band? Was that pre-band? Was that pre-band or post-band?
It might have been at the beginning of the band. I was like, man, I'm in a I'm in a TV. Marginally famous, so. I think I did them really thin too. It was bad. My sister was like, oh my God. She's like, what what'd you do?
