Young Hollywood

Welcome to Younghollywood. com.

Jared Leto

Hey, I am Jared and this is my brother Shannon and this is, I don't know who this guy is, but um he snuck in here. His name is actually Tao. We are very proud to be here today, not only because it's Young Hollywood but because we are premiering our video.

Young Hollywood

It's been a while since the last album beautiful lie. What was that ride like for you whenever it seemed to me that everything kind of happened really fast.

Jared Leto

You know, you work a decade and and then you're an overnight success sort of thing and we had a a great time with it all and we're completely fixated and focused right now on this album and it's been a long time coming. I mean, look at he's even he's actually got a full head of gray hair.

Young Hollywood

Let's see, let's see the gray. It's in the beard. It's in the beard. You say that though? They're going to put you on Old Hollywood, not Young.

Jared Leto

I know. Well, the the cool thing is you guys, it's it's not about age, it's about attitude. So, gray hairs are actually like you know, you show attitude with the gray hair.

Young Hollywood

It's not the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean.

Jared Leto

Exactly. As my grandpa used to say.

Young Hollywood

When he was does Can we say that on a family show like this?

Jared Leto

You can you can swear on the show.

Young Hollywood

Can you? Yes. What can your fans expect from this album?

Jared Leto

Armageddon. Yeah. Mr. Rogers meets D-Throne is what Angelica Cobb said. Um I like that.

Young Hollywood

Can you say that in Young Hollywood?

Jared Leto

Yeah, you can you can you can say whatever you want. Yeah. And by the way, not in a dirty deep throat. I was referring to the uh the the scandal with uh Nixon.

Young Hollywood

I read somewhere you wrote over 100 songs and then the band is this true, tried to collectively come in on this and you had to decide what were the best ones behind this.

Jared Leto

I I wrote about 120 songs, maybe 170 who's counting. Uh and then we whittled it down to 30 or something and um and we whittled it down to another uh 11 and then three, and then it was down to one and we practically decided we had to pull some out of the trash or else we wouldn't have a record.

Young Hollywood

You've got the short film that you guys are doing with the Kings and Queens, which is a really cool twist with cinematic tones and the music. What was the idea behind that?

Jared Leto

Just pure panic and survival because basically when you make a video, it's really, really hard work. Right. I mean, people don't understand, it's like 20 hours straight of just waiting around and then like these tedious little things. But this video is actually a lot of fun to make. So, while there was a lot of work, it was fun. You know, when we make a video, a video, it doesn't even seem like it's a video. We want to have an experience that that is that's worthy. Something that's uh shows us a part of the world or ourselves if it's a video that brings us to China. Like how amazing is that. That experience changed changed our lives in some small way and then going to the Arctic again, that kind of fit into that as well. In this new case shows us a part of our hometown that we didn't really know so much about.

Young Hollywood

Shannon, you haven't gotten a chance to talk much down here.

Jared Leto

It's okay. He's writing a book and uh observing.

Young Hollywood

Really?

Jared Leto

Yeah, he's he's the observer. So be careful.

Young Hollywood

I heard that you guys have a really cool place where you you kind of have your think tank called The Hive.

Jared Leto

It's really just a think tank, a place where people can come to join us and uh help support and celebrate and come up with all kinds of crazy ideas uh and events and it's like art gallery slash campaign headquarters.

Young Hollywood

I think it's cool that you reach out to your fans and they can come in and kind of be interactive as well online.

Jared Leto

We always have a lot of fun turning the camera and the microphone, the intention towards our audience and it's just a really exciting place to create. Uh we did include um people from all over the world uh in the making of the record. And uh and then in the release in the artwork uh we did 2,000 uh faces uh So you could have been right there. Just look. That would have been a fair a cover of it. It was my link. It was smiling Rock and Roll. Didn't you see with the who said that? Metallica.

Young Hollywood

Now with this last album, you guys got to do so much touring. Is there any like one story that stands out or one city that you guys absolutely love and can't wait to get back to?

Jared Leto

You're going to talk. Yay!

Shannon Leto

Yes. We were traveling, we were touring for quite some time, okay? And it was particularly cold and dark time of the year. I hope everyone at home is snuggled up in the blanket as I tell the story. Um with some popcorn. We were traveling around in the Midwest, and it was really dark, and we would get to go to bed at night and every once in a while, we'd we'd start hearing some knocking while the bus was rolling through the countryside at night. And it sounded like it was coming from underneath the base. So, it was about 4:00 in the morning. We were driving through Bismark. And we said, you know what, we're going to pull over this bus for once and for all. We pulled it over, we pulled out all the bags, everything. Couldn't find anything. And then our tour manager, um I think his name was Rightaid. Uh he um his name Rightaid? Big long, like big long, big long beard. I think he actually founded Rightaid and then got screwed out of it and then but Rightaid pulled over. We searched through all the bags, couldn't find a single thing. And then he said, boys, got something to tell you. Many years ago, when I was driving grateful dead, we found a stowaway in Texas. Then he dang suffocated. We took the body and we buried it in the desert after a short prayer. But ever since then, we've heard the knock of that stranger underneath the bus. And well hell, I think he's come back to haunt y'all too. Yeah. Yeah, his name was Raul. Yeah. I guess or Abe Jedediah. Jedediah was the name of the the kid that died, okay.

Young Hollywood

Are you serious?

Shannon Leto

Yeah. Yeah. We're serious. This is what happens on the road. If I was on a quiet night, if you listen, He was waiting for that knock. You can still hear Jedediah knocking on the floor. All right.
