Young Hollywood

Welcome to younghollywood. com. What's up, Young Hollywood? I am here in a sandwich with two amazing rock stars. I got Dave Navarro right here and Billy Morrison of Camp Freddy. We are here backstage. You guys are getting ready for a big show tonight. How are you feeling?

Billy Morrison

I'm super excited. We got great guests coming. You know we're going to bring the rock.

Young Hollywood

Now, tell me, who's the special guest tonight, Billy?

Billy Morrison

The big finale is going to be Billy Idol, busting out of his hole in the Hollywood Hills to come and play with us. We got Naveen Andrews from Lost, going to play us a little song.

Young Hollywood

You guys gotta give me a little backstory on Camp Freddy. Where did you guys get the name?

Billy Morrison

The Italian Job is my favorite movie. And there's a small gangster character in there called Camp Freddy. It's an American name.

Young Hollywood

What's up, Chris? You gonna grab the guitar? Are you going to play for us? Pick this diddy up.

Billy Morrison

This is the last night. I'm actually really bummed out. I mean, cuz this, this residency's been for me one of the best things that's happened to Camp Freddy. It's forced us to learn a ton of new songs that we'd never played. We have different guests every week, different set lists.

Young Hollywood

So what is it like playing with Camp Freddy versus, you know, back in the days when you're with the other bands?

Dave Navarro Rockin'

I think the model behind the group, music without motives, is one thing. There's not a lot of drama.

Young Hollywood

Dave's back. A lot of fans out there want to know about your shows. Are there any rituals that you guys do before you go on stage?

Dave Navarro Rockin'

No, someone comes and says, you're on, and we go, okay. And then we get on, then we do what we do. Most of the people in this band, like, we've all been doing this for 20 years. And we don't all work together musically all the time like we do in our own bands. For us, this is just kind of fun. It's like a party atmosphere. It's simply musicians that love playing great songs together and in a way that's we've never done before. As long as it remains fun, then that's the whole point of doing it.

Billy Morrison

Yeah. And with that, I'm going to duck out because, ladies and gentlemen, Matt Sorum.

Young Hollywood

Ladies and gentlemen, he's in the house. Hi, Matt. You guys just get up on stage. You don't know what song you're gonna play. Everything's last minute.

Matt Sorum

Yeah, hopefully we know what song we're gonna play. Initially, we were always like a band that did like corporate events and rent a whole house events and stuff like that like PlayStation, Sony. It's just always different and weird and the most random people show up sometimes. And tonight we're going to have Juliet Lewis.

Young Hollywood

So do you guys usually have people in mind that you'd like to play with?

Matt Sorum

We make a little wish list, you know? And then we, we call around. Tiffany showed up last week, which was totally bizarre, and we did a Sex Pistols song, you know? Last time, we were actually going to do this jam with Q-Tip. We forgot about it. We were, oh yeah. Hey, what about that Q-Tip jam? Oh, whoops. Billy Idol's coming down tonight. We've been working on that one for about three months. Finally, I ran into his manager when I was out getting this tattoo last week. I got this tattoo across the street and there was Billy Idol's manager. I said, so what's going on? We have a new clothing line. It's called Sorum, no J. It's men's clothing. It's, I like to call it classic rock and roll coat tour. Hey, this is Matt Sorum from Camp Freddy. You're watching Young Hollywood. com.
