Whoa, what's going on? It's Willie Jones, hanging out with Young Hollywood right here in Los Angeles, California. I'm chilling at the penthouse studio and yeah, we're about to have a good time.
What's up Young Hollywood? Today we're with a very special guest. What's up, Willie?
What's going on?
Not much. I like, okay, so we got to the studio, the penthouse and you were chilling. So how often would you say you're here?
Oh man. Well, I live in Nashville right now, and I just got out here about a week ago. So, starting to come out here more often, you know, I lived out here for four years. Uh, so it's good to be back out here.
What's your favorite part about LA? I mean you lived here for four years, yes, but what's your favorite part?
Um, I just like how diverse it is. It's just a lot of different people out here. It's a lot of, um, yeah, it's just a lot of different cool people who do all kinds of things and uh, who just like traveled and, you know, it's just a a melt pot of people. A lot of weirdos, so I with that.
Yeah. And when you're not at the studio, what would we catch you doing? What do you like to do?
Oh lord. Chill. Yeah. No, um, if I'm not at the stu, I mean, I'm here a lot, but uh, probably making some food somewhere.
Are you a good cook? Because like Louisiana, you know, like crawfish, all that.
Oh yeah, I gets down. I gets down. I I I'm not a crawfish bowler. I do love crawfish. Yeah. But uh, yeah, I got my recipes that I, you know, keep in my back pocket that I'll whip out every now and again. Yeah. I'm trying to like impress somebody. Or impress myself.
There you go. Yeah. And you're from Louisiana. You grew up there? Mm. So what is like what's one thing you think that's like just Louisiana in you that like you just will never get rid of? You think?
Ooh, Louisiana. I mean, we all got some ratchet in us. That's what Boosie said. You know, uh, but yeah, and ratchet actually, I always tell people this but ratchet is actually a Shreveport thing. I know it's like a uh it's a term now that's like used more negatively like, "Ooh, that's ratchet." But when I was growing up it's like, "Man, let's get ratchet, bro. I'm trying to go get ratchet." We all got some ratchet in us, you know,
Right. We should bring that word back though. Yeah. It sounds fun.
Yeah, but Louisiana growing up in Louisiana and Shreveport definitely, uh, I mean it's home, it's a great place to grow up. I go back and uh, yeah, it's home. Yeah, for sure.
And so now we're in LA, how long have you been here so far?
I've been here like a week.
Okay.
Been back out here a week, been in the stu, been going out a little bit and I love LA. It's great. Yeah.
Speaking of being in the studio, which we are right now, what have you been doing like making new songs? What's the vibe?
I've been cooking up. Uh, writing new music for uh, you know, uh, the world to check out, figuring out, you know, where I want to take the content and also just tightening up the music that I've been releasing lately. Yeah.
And what's one studio item you always need with you? What's something you always have in the studio?
What is something I've always got?
Is there one like one item, one thing?
My phone. I got to have my phone.
Why do you have to have your phone? I mean Besides the obvious reason.
I mean no yeah, besides the obvious reason. I mean, I use my phone I type. I mean when I'm writing, I use my phone to write and, you know, if you're surfing the web and stuff to like draw inspiration and stuff like that. But uh, yeah, my phone is something that definitely is needed. And a lighter at some point. Yeah.
What would you say you think is your hardest lyric that you have in any of your songs ever?
My hardest lyric, like what do you mean the hardest like?
Like your favorite lyric, like the one that you think is so good. Like people would put on their Instagram captions.
Ooh. Um, man, I got some bars out there for sure. But um, one, I mean, one that I love, uh, was on uh, the song right now, uh, that was on my first album. And it's just a cool little bar. It just say, "All good things, uh, yeah, all good things come to an end and so do the bad, so let the good begin." And I think that's just like even the same sentiment as get low, get high is like Yeah. Life has ups, life has downs. It's good, it's bad. You got to recognize the bad to really enjoy the good. So, you know, Yeah.
And speaking of get low, get high. So that song, that's a really good song.
Thank you.
And also like if you like in your feels or like in a bad mood, it will just make you happier because it's like get low, get high. But anyways, what is what would you say like was the inspiration behind that? And why would you get your inspiration from like, do you get your inspiration from life events, you think? Like, do you write them from your like your heart?
For sure. Like definitely, uh, I always draw inspiration from like my real life and like, you know, genuine stuff that I'm going through. Cause it's just easier to easier to uh, just get out, you know. Easier to express. Um, but yeah, with get low, get high, I mean, that came after a night where it was storming in Louisiana really crazy. And the next day the sun was out and it was just a beautiful day. And this was during quarantine too. This was my my first uh, writing session during the lockdown. Like the world had just shut down. We were like figuring out how to be creatives in this weird time. And so, you know, Zoom started popping off and Yeah.
Good ol' Zoom.
Right, good ol' Zoom. Good ol' Zoom. And and we're working from home and stuff like that. So figuring it out was cool. But this was my first Zoom session and I remember it rained the night before. First Zoom session, sun was out and I was like, I'm going to go outside and work. So I like brought my speakers and my laptop and everything outside and started the session, uh, with Carrie Barlow and Brandon Day. And I was just talking about how the night before it was just raining, it was crazy and they were like, "What the hell you writing a song outside?" And I was like, "Yeah, it's a beautiful day." And um, yeah, we were just talking about dark and light and, you know, rain and sunshine and ups and downs in life. Yeah. And uh, get low, get high came out. Yeah.
That's awesome. That's and you remember it so well.
Oh yeah, I remember it like it was yesterday. I mean, it was my first Yeah. Zoom did me good. Yeah, Zoom did me good. I got some good stuff out of Zoom for sure.
And how would you say, what is there any like major thing that happened like during quarantine like self-realization or like you're like, oh, I want to write a song about this besides get low, get high. Um, Like the quarantine help, yeah.
For sure. I mean creatively most definitely. And it was cool too to be creating back cause I went back to Louisiana from LA. So I was back home and uh, I mean it was the house that I grew up in and like it was just cool to just be home and write in my garage like on my computer. I don't know it was just really nostalgic.
It's a full circle. It's an old style.
Yeah, it felt like yeah, it felt like I was a kid again like for real. And um, Yeah, it was just a good time.
Man. But you had done so much like you like since probably you had been home last time. So like it felt good.
Yeah, it felt really good. You know like it's like, oh wow, like I'm back, but I've done so much. Yeah, it felt really good to be home. I mean, minus the circumstances, like we got to be home. Yeah. But uh, yeah, quarantine definitely uh, creatively I I definitely grew a lot and uh, I mean, I'm having self-realizations all the time. For sure.
And you have two new singles out. Yeah. Slow Cookin and Soul Food. How do you feel? Those are okay. So we've listened, Young Hollywood's listened and they're really good songs.
Thank you.
I told them I like the type like of songs that like when you're home around the holidays cause that's like you released them around the holidays that you just want to vibe out to. Like a good song.
Oh yeah. Heck yeah, great. And uh, thank you for listening and, you know. But uh, yeah, Slow Cookin and Soul Food. They're two real tasty tracks that uh, I'm excited for everybody to to check out and get a little taste of it. Yeah.
For Thanksgiving so like do you think you're going to play them? Like all the time. Like do you like listening to your own songs?
Oh for sure. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm definitely listening to my music a lot this week. And it's cool too cause Soul Food I actually wrote around Thanksgiving like after after Thanksgiving holiday, uh, with my family and I just got on a mic and just started freestyling about food and then Soul Food came out. And uh, heck yeah, it's really cool to be releasing both these tracks at the same time and uh, you know, get people get people some uh, munch on. Yeah.
And we when we were playing his songs in the studio before we turned on the camera, you were bopping around a little bit.
Oh yeah. I saw you bopping too though. I saw you bopping too.
Cuz they're good songs.
Thank you.
And okay. Would you say you're a good dancer? Did you see me dance?
Yes.
Do you do you choreograph yourself when you do shows?
I mean, I have my little moves that I do, you know, uh,
You break down to them.
Yeah, I got my little my little moves. I always I will say I'm not a dancer but I'll be moving. Yeah. Got a little step. Put your little step. I do this little thing with my leg.
Are you on TikTok?
I am.
How do you feel? How do you feel about dancers?
But I don't be on TikTok I don't I I I'm on TikTok but I don't TikTok like
We're going to make you do a TikTok dance.
All right. I bet.
Okay. We're going to really really you're just going to start doing the leg thing.
Yeah, I'm telling you, it's the move.
What's who's one artist that you'd want to collab with?
Oh man. There's so many, um, There's so many. Can I throw out a couple?
Yeah. You can name more than one, we'll let you.
Um, I want to work with There's so many. So recently, I've been really on this artist name Yola. Okay. Yeah, she's super dope. Um, but yeah, I really want to work with her. Uh, I always throw out Kacey Musgraves. Yeah. Post Malone. I can I can see Post Malone like having like a little snippet. Like if you do a remix of like No yeah, like like Soul Food, like Slow Cookin. Oh. Like for sure heck yeah. I got some tracks for sure that I like have people in mind that uh, I definitely want to manifest, you know, let's get in a room and create something. But uh, I just I just love collaborating Yeah. in general with people, you know.
For sure. And what's one big goal? Like would you want to sell out Madison Square Garden? Mm. Of course that's probably a goal. But what's like a big goal of yours?
I I've always wanted to do SNL. That would be so so sick. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. Like I've been a fan for a while and um, yeah, I mean once you get on SNL you're like, you're legit. Like you're you're legit legit.
You'd feel legitimately behind yourself.
Yeah. But yeah, perform on SNL and uh, I would say host SNL too. Yeah. That'd be sick.
We're going to do the one word challenge. So the base of the game is that I'm going to read off one word to you and you have to write down the very first thing that pops into your head. Even if it doesn't make any sense. Okay. Just the very first word that pops in your head when I say my word. And then you'll explain it. Okay. Are you nervous?
I am.
And did you say your handwriting was really bad?
No.
Yeah. We're going to end up making fun of it. Yeah, just kidding. We're very nice here. All right. Okay, ready? So first word, Los Angeles.
Okay, flip it. Sunny.
What a great word. Sunny. I mean it's not sunny right now. Uh, sun should be coming out. But yeah, it's sunny. You know. There you go. Sun be out. Sky be clean. Good weather. The weather's great.
There we go. That was the first thing that came to my head.
No, that's that's the point. It's good, it's good, it's good. Okay, next word, simp. Do you say that you're a simp?
Sometimes I do be simping. Sometimes I I can do some simping. But, that ain't it. You know, I'm not going to say that. But yeah, yeah, yeah.
Will you get girls flowers? What's it to you? So simping, what's it to you? What's the definition?
I don't know. Cause sometimes I think it would be like to be sensitive, like doing the most for something. Okay, okay. So I guess there's different categories. So I feel like this word is now
Yeah, it's different categories too. But like that does make sense no matter what category, I think.
Yeah. Cause that that basically you're down bad. You're down bad. But yeah, simp uh, I I can find myself doing some simpish stuff. Yeah. For sure.
What would you say is your simpiest song? My simpiest song? Yeah. Like getting your feels, like going to play it cuz I'm in my feels type song. Um, in your opinion.
Actions is pretty. I wouldn't say it's it's one of them ones that yeah, I'm definitely uh, in my feels for sure. But Yeah. I I don't think I was simping. I don't know. Maybe.
Y'all with this slang. Okay, next one, legend.
I don't know. I guess cuz the I don't know this is just where my head was. It's fine. I'm really like these are really just the words that's popped in my head. I'm not trying to do all that stuff. Will Smith. I thought I am Legend and that's just where my head went.
What's your favorite movie that he's been in?
Ooh, um, Favorite Will Smith movie? Independence Day is dope. Yeah. Pursuit of Happiness, did you watch that one? Pursuit of Happiness is great. It's been a while since I've seen that one. Yeah. Did you see uh, uh, not Genesis. He did one where he was like with the twins. Oh, I know what you're talking about. Like the one from the future. That was really good. What was the one he did on Netflix uh, with the ogres with the uh? Oh. He was like a police officer and like they were like I forget the name of it. He did a lot of like the anime like not animated but, you know, like the
Like the CGI type, yeah.
But Will Smith is a legend. I can picture it. You know how you picture like the Netflix cover, but you just don't know the name of it. Okay, yeah, we'll shout out that one.
Okay, first word we've popped in your head. Love.
There you go. God is love and yeah, we are God and we yeah, we are love and yeah.
Said whatever popped up in your head. Okay, next one, style. Do you think you have good style? Do you think I have good style? Yeah, coordinated. We chilling. Yeah, yeah, of course. I'll be chilling. Good fit. Good fit and here. Uh, the word, hmm,
Did you pick out your outfit today? Uh, yes, I did. I pick out all of my clothes. I style all myself. Really? Sometimes. I don't know. My words ain't like I don't know. I don't feel like I can do better than what like fly. I just thought fly.
Do you think your fits are more important in LA like when you're walking around in LA versus like Nashville or you like to be fitted up all the time?
Um, I'll be chilling. Yeah. You know, some days I'll be super like I'll step out and be like super fitted up in Nashville and then sometimes I'll just look like I don't know. Yeah, just like quarantine fit. Like you need to go home. No yeah. But I'm definitely always like comfortable. Yeah. I do like to look good. Yeah. Of course.
Okay, certified loverboy or Donda?
Uh, I would say both of them hugs. I I I I was not one to compare either of those albums, um, cuz they're both sonically so different. Yeah.
We we saw you're a Kanye Kanye fan.
Oh yeah. I'm a Kanye fan for sure. I'm a Drake fan too. Um, yeah, they're both legendary artists who then pushed the culture forward. And yeah, but Donda is both. Both of them are so good. But uh, yeah, both of them. I would say both.
Okay, both. Okay, last one for first word that pops in your head. Get Low, Get High.
I say download that. Go download Get Low, Get High. Add it to your playlist. It's going to raise the vibrations and uh, yeah, go download that.
Do you have a playlist of your own songs? You download your own songs?
Um, yeah, I do. I buy my songs on on the iTunes. Yeah. Heck yeah. And then of course I like to have all my stuff on my notes.
If your your song comes up in the car like in a store like above you and like you're just listen like what do you do? Do you have like a or do you sing along or you're like,
Of course. Yeah, I'll singing along like, oh shit, that's my song. Yeah.
Well, you killed the game. You did good.
Thank you. That was fun.
Thank you for playing the game with me.
