Making Beats

You gotta like learn your craft, study the greats, you know, study the people that have come before you that, you know, that, you know, that you, you know, you want one day be in their shoes. After working with him all these years, I'm still in awe of him. He's just he's just Dre. He's Dr. Dre.

Young Hollywood

Tell me about your latest collaborations with Dre.

Making Beats

I met him when I was 14 actually. Um through uh my sister. Um he was at my parents' house and uh

Young Hollywood

Dre was just hanging out at your parents' house. Who says that?

Making Beats

I know, it was for it was for her birthday party and I told him I was going to be a producer. You know, fast forward to 2000, you know, 4 or 2003, I ended up getting back in the studio with him and he and, you know, in that year he told me he wanted to sign me. You know, as a producer, I just give him music, you know what I mean? And hopefully he picks it.

Young Hollywood

And Dre is literally a legend in the music industry. I remember when I first moved out here, I had a um an internship at Interscope and he walked in, surprisingly the one day I worked there. And I literally just froze because the man is like Jesus Christ. He walks in and you're just like Oh my god, he just has such a crazy presence. Were you nervous when you first met him?

Making Beats

Yeah, after working with him all these years, I'm still in awe of him even when I'm in the studio and watching him work. So you never get over that with him. You know, he's just he's just Dre. He's Dr. Dre.

Young Hollywood

What about his counterpart? We've got Eminem. I know you've been working on some things with him as well. Can you talk to me about that?

Making Beats

I produced four records on on uh his last album Recovery. Uh you know, he just won the rap album of the year. So I know that I'm not I went away I guess to open up some lanes, but there was no one who even knew I was going through growing pains. hate to lose. So, you know, all all the producers on the album, you know, are Grammy Award winning producers, so um I can add that to my title now. And I got to take my mom, which is like a big thing.

Young Hollywood

Hottest date ever.

Making Beats

Exactly.

Young Hollywood

I love that. What advice would you give the young producers out there? It's not easy. Not everybody has Dr. Dre coming to their birthday party.

Making Beats

You gotta like learn your craft, study the greats, you know, study the people that have come before you.

Young Hollywood

Is there anybody that you kind of had an ear for and you said this person's gonna be big and you were right about them?

Making Beats

Drake is definitely like a person. I just started sending music and you know, and he was just like he knew exactly what direction he wanted to go in.

Young Hollywood

Is there anybody that you haven't yet had a chance to collaborate with that you think that you could really make a make a hit with?

Making Beats

Lil Wayne is is definitely on on that. He's on my wish list. I don't even know for what, but he's there. Beyonce, you know what I mean? Like, I'm sure she's on everybody's wish list.

Young Hollywood

So talk to me about your creative process. When you come into the studio, there's a lot going on, a lot of keyboards. What how do you start your day?

Making Beats

I just I I have a a bunch of musicians that I work with. Somebody'll jump on this keyboard and then somebody'll jump on the guitar and we'll just go.

Young Hollywood

How do you say to yourself, okay, this is done. This is ready to go. This is gonna be a hit. How do you know?

Making Beats

If I can listen to it for about two or three hours straight and I love it. And it's still about. Yeah. Then I know that like, okay, this one's ready. This one's going out the door.

Young Hollywood

Well, thank you so much for hanging out with us. I'll be hitting you up when my rap career starts to blow up. All right.
