Welcome to Young Hollywood. com. Hey Young Hollywood, I'm Michelle Hamma, we're here with Flo Rida.
Now tonight at the Roxy, you're doing something really cool. The MySpace music, actually, you have fans who are able to print off a ticket from your MySpace page. What do you do to kind of, you know, fire yourself up for a show?
I mean, for the most part, I just need towels and some water. I have a lot of energy. I always get the crowd involved and and I'll just keep it pushing.
Let's talk about "Low," how you just broke all the downloading records that first week. Were you expecting that?
I mean, you know, definitely you'll expect, you know, something because I've been doing this like 12 years. I mean, grinding hard but I mean to this magnitude, you know, I definitely couldn't have predicted it to be that big, you know, as far as the logos.
And then "Right Round." It shattered the "Low" record. And then were you like, dude, I'm doing something right.
You know, the fans going out and purchasing "Right Round" and helping me sell like 600,000 units the first week, over a half a million a second week and coming out, you know, number one and number two with that record beating out "Low." I mean, it's definitely something a situation that gives me goosebumps sometimes when I think about it.
Young Hollywood spoke with Montanna Tucker, and she gave a couple shoutouts. You collaborated with a huge artist, Flo Rida.
I did an event with him and Rick Ross down in Miami where I'm from, and we met from there, and it just a bunch of ideas put together, and it just came about, and it's called "Turn It Up," and it's my song featuring Flo Rida.
She's a hot up-and-coming artist. You know, I did a couple of shows with her. I definitely enjoyed, you know, doing the record. So I look forward to her doing some big things in the near future.
Can you give us a little insight what the music scene is like in Miami and who some of your influences were growing up?
I mean, it's a gumbo of, you know, all type of different artists. I mean, Haitian, Cuban culture, you know, Jamaican, all of that. So I recall, you know, grinding it out with guys like Rick Ross, Protest, having a record deal. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Pitbull, same thing, doing shows with him. My boy Pleasure P, as far as early rap goes in Miami, you know, always been a fan of the 2 Live Crew.
Now you've collaborated with a lot of really great people: Akon, Lil Wayne. How do you kind of get involved in deciding who you want to collaborate with?
In the studio, and I might just get an idea and be like, you know, I need Wyclef on this, or shout out to Nelly Furtado who actually reached out to me, you know, with this jump record that I have on the "R. O. O. T. S." album and they always inspire me and I'm always happy to meet, you know, talented artists such as those cats.
Do you have anything in your closet that you love to wear, that you can't leave the house without?
Always gotta have my jewels on.
What are we, uh, sporting today? What's the bling?
You know, we just got the cross. Hmm. Got the Bentley, Brightling, couple rings. Yeah, what's good? This is your boy Flo Rida doing it big. Shout out to Young Hollywood. I love y'all. Let's go and cop "Roots."
