What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood, coming to you from Dodger Stadium. This is the site for the annual Kershaw's Challenge Ping-Pong for Purpose event hosted by none other than Mr. Clayton Kershaw.

It is like Emmy night for MLB. Night off, you're coming back to the stadium. Kershaw's worth it. Uh, he's he you come to the stadium for Kershaw. Kershaw's the man. Second guest: Yeah, he's he's the goat. He's yeah, that guy. He's, you know, kept me um, to keep challenging myself day in and day out and uh yeah, man, I I do a lot for that guy.

Like you're here because he's uh at the helm of this amazing charity. Talk about the charity and supporting him.

Yeah, I mean, he I mean, he's talked about it a few times and, you know, just always giving back and making sure that, you know, there's a purpose beyond baseball. And you know, for him, uh like I said, I'd do anything for him.

A night off, and you're back only for Clayton Kershaw.

That's right. Got to come back if he asked.

Yeah. Now, he asked and he's doing he's doing good. And this is the 10th year he's doing the ping-pong tournament. Talk about the charity and how we just have to support all the time. Second guest: Yeah, you know, Clayton, uh it's awesome first of all for this to be my first one and finally get to experience. I've heard great things and just uh the way they give back to the community is awesome and it's inspirational for someone like me who is kind of aspiring to follow in his footsteps. So, um, just kind of showing what kind of platform they have and how they can use it.

Okay, Clayton, I'm going to give you a ping-pong paddle from your first annual tournament that you've been here every step of the way. How does it feel to hold it? What's your strategy going in tonight?

Yeah, I mean, it's wild that it's been this long, but uh yeah, we've still got some of these at the house, I think. We practice regularly. Regularly is a stretch, but uh no, it's it's just amazing. Like they said, it's been 10 years now and um, every year we're just blown away by the support of teammates, uh celebrities that come out, uh beneficiaries that spend the time and the money to be here and ultimately we get to raise a lot of money for some really great things and um, tonight's just kind of the culmination of that. So, we're always blown away and tonight's no different.

Talk about the charity and how much it means to you guys.

Yeah, so Kershaw's Challenge was started honestly the month after we got married. So, almost 13 years ago. Really it started with a really simple um, need to build a home for orphans in Zambia and it's just really snowballed from there. It started very organically with just one girl in mind and I now hope it and pray that it's reached millions of kids. And so, tonight we are raising money for six different beneficiaries from the Dominican Republic to Africa and here in Los Angeles.

So, you're here on your night off for Clayton Kershaw. Tell me about the man and the charity. It's really important to be here.

Yeah, I mean, uh, you know, everything that Kerch does is kind of greatness, you know, Ellen Ellen he has a very important good backbone with Ellen and you know, the family and everything that he does and I'm I'm I'm a proud supporter of him. You know, it doesn't matter what he does, I'm just supporting Clayton Kershaw. He's a brother to me, teammate to me and uh I love him.

Good to see you on your night off for Clayton and this amazing charity. We're here every year. Second guest: Yeah, this is uh it's amazing. Um, you know, just like I was saying earlier, what they do on camera is amazing, but what they do behind cameras where a lot of people don't see is truly inspiring. So, even though this is an off-day off-day for us, we love coming out and supporting uh the Kershaws and the amazing work they do.

Okay, sir, we're here for Clayton, a charity, ping-pong, it's like you can't go wrong with those three things.

Can't go wrong with those three things. Actually really appreciate leadership, Clayton Kershaw, goes without saying. He and his wife, Ellen, they're passionate about giving back. Many purposes throughout the year that they like to donate to and and bring awareness to and just as a teammate and and friend glad to be here tonight to support them.

You got the paddle in your hand. What's your strategy going into the game today?

My strategy is to hope my partner's good. Uh, no, he's not going to give me any tips because he's trying to beat me, I think.

Now, who are you playing with, do you know yet?

Jonathan Bond. Okay. I haven't met him before, but I'm hoping that he's been practicing a lot.

You know, I've heard your ping-pong table has now become a dining room table or vice versa. Um, so you must or you must be ready for tonight then.

Yeah, you know, it's been a staple like uh it kind of came with the marriage for her for Ellen, unfortunately. You know, we played a lot, we played a lot before kids. Play some now, it's a little bit different, but uh yeah, we're we're still ready for tonight.

Okay, who's your partner tonight?

Austin Barnes. And then Ellen's going to play with his wife Nicole, so I hope we play each other. It'll be fun.

Okay, you are an athlete, so here's the paddle. How are you holding it? What's your strategy going into the game today?

So, probably I'm going to keep the label on the back and just go clear and then I I've always been told just to keep my thumb around the back, left-handed and that's how I hold it. Just like that. Hopefully it doesn't hit my my uh pointer finger. We We have a professional ping-pong player in pink down there and she actually holds it differently. I I mean, she's she's a professional for a reason, so I Yeah. Maybe she has a few tricks for me, I don't know.

Okay, it's a night off, but you're playing a game. Now, talk about your ping-pong game, your strategy, how you hold the paddle, give me it all. Second guest: I got to be honest, I'm doing this strictly for the cause 'cause I'm not well versed in ping-pong. Uh, I saw how intense our spring training battles went with our teammates and Freddie and Kerch actually, they put on a display and Freddie's a sleeper in this, so I'll kind of give that away. Um, to whoever's going to set up against him because he doesn't play often, but he's really, really good.

Now, this paddle is from the first annual tournament. Can you hold it? Show me uh how you hold the paddle and your strategy going into the game.

Uh, I just hold the paddle kind of like this. I I don't have a strategy yet. I got to I got to see I got to see what's going on. I'm playing with Freddie, so I'm sure uh by by a couple points, we'll figure something out.

Your favorite MLB moment in your life?

Um, my debut, that's kind of selfish, but uh that's my favorite, for sure.

Break it down for me. What was it like?

Uh, it's one of those things where you kind of black out, go through and look back on it three hours later and just uh just all the emotions running through your head, parents and family getting to be there and everything like that. It's just a really cool milestone.

I got to ask your best MLB memory of you, you. Second guest: Winning the World Series. Yeah, I mean, that's what we play for and it's to win and uh that was a special

Favorite MLB memory in your life?

Uh, favorite MLB memory in my life is probably uh probably my my first day in the big leagues. I got to meet Jeter. I was just kind of shaking. Um, I didn't get to play that day, but I did get to meet him and he uh said congrats and just gave me some words of encouragement. That's probably my favorite day so far.

Oh, my favorite MLB memory, I think, if you talk to anybody, it's always their big league debut um, and also hitting a home run and winning the World Series. Uh, I would say those are my two favorites.

Favorite MLB memory?

Winning World Series.

Favorite MLB memory of all time?

Uh, my debut. Yeah, 20 20 uh in Philadelphia. Um, and yeah, that was always hold a special place in my heart, you know?

Favorite baseball movie of all time?

Sandlot.

Favorite baseball movie is probably going to be Hardball, you know. Hardball is uh awesome movie.

I mean, Moneyball. Yeah, I like I liked Moneyball a lot. That was a really good movie.

Field of Dreams. It's an awesome one.

Favorite baseball movie?

Right, so so I want to exactly where it is. Major League.

Major League.

I like um true stories. So, I'm going to go with The Rookie. Yeah, just something about that. And then obviously, you uh you can't go wrong with Bull Durham.

Well, you said the word rookie. What advice would you pass on to the rookies that are coming up?

Uh, just have fun. Uh, the hardest thing is is dealing with failure 'cause this again, we fail a lot and it's uh you'll continue to fail. So, I think it's more of trying to let the bad games go faster and that's what I try and teach 'em.
