Hey guys, Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood, back at Dodger Stadium for the third annual Ping-Pong for Purpose. Tons of athletes and stars have come together all supporting Clayton Kershaw and his charity. It's table tennis for the Dodgers cause they're so serious about it, but it's ping-pong for us.

This is probably the only thing that I'm, you know, worthy of being on this field for is is to play ping-pong. Forget the charity, we're here to win. This is a competition. We're on the field at Dodger Stadium. Go do it. Not about the kids.

We had the idea a few years back and uh to what it's turned into now has been uh it's just uh it really is it's overwhelming. It's pretty cool.

Now, take me back to the beginning. You and your wife go to Zambia. You wanna help, you wanna start a charity and now this.

Yeah, I mean we uh it just started with one little girl named Hope and uh it's turned into where we are now and hopefully we get to raise a lot of money for.

LA Clippers coming to support the LA Dodgers and Clayton. I love it.

I do too.

It's awesome. Uh, you know, it's really a cool event, number one. Clayton is Clayton, so you you when he calls you, you almost have to go. And it's the summer. We're not doing anything else. Let's raise some money for charity. You know, you play ping-pong at a friend's house or, you know, especially at a professional level, we all think we can play. You know, I even got friends that play golf that are like, hey man, I can play some ping-pong. And they can, you know. So, it's always an all out battle and this this challenge, you know, it's an awesome challenge.

From the the people that work at Kershaw's Challenge to the people that come alongside and help with these events, uh, you know, my wife, it's just uh it's just amazing the the group that we have that are so passionate about the things we are.

And talk about your clubhouse, just the support from the guys.

It's awesome. You know, it's their off-night at home. They we don't get very many of these. So for them to come out like this on a night and uh support us is is really, really special.

Yeah, it's a big night, big event, really exciting. Here's to support Clayton and Ellen and their amazing uh mission and what they're what they're doing around the world. And to do this here at the stadium, um it shows how much we're all behind him. And it's a great night, it's a lot of fun. And we get to play a little ping-pong as well.

He's one of those people who is just so genuine and it's for the right reasons and he's so for the amount of success he's had right out here at Dodger Stadium for him to still be able to give back in such a big way and it's really cool.

It's just such a fun event. I mean, you know, in the first year it was upstairs and the last year was the first time we had it on the field. It's gonna be great. I I just I'm so excited to be back. This is great.

Isn't it amazing for Clayton how literally like you're saying, it started so small, had like eight tables, now they've taken over the stadium.

Yeah, yeah, it's pretty amazing.

The LA Kings coming to support the LA Dodgers. Uh yeah, we're excited and I hope we don't embarrass ourselves.

Well, the last time I saw you guys here you had the cup. Um, they're not giving that away if you win ping-pong though.

Yeah, that's uh, that's unfortunate.

How does it translate? Basketball skills for ping-pong.

Oh, it doesn't not very much at all. Uh, maybe like a little hand-eye coordination, but yeah, I don't I don't know. I mean, I'm here to win, but I'm not trying to oversell my uh ping-pong skills.

You don't have a paddle. We should

What do you mean I don't have a paddle? Does this look like me? Everyone has a paddle in their hand.

What what grip are we using? What's happening?

Uh, just normal, pretty standard. We're not that.

Two hands.

Yeah.

Extra power?

No. No, there you go. Not really. I just standard. I don't know. No, I'm not good enough for the reverse. Yeah. It's it's standard. Okay. I mean, I don't do any of this stuff. No, this is straight up standard style. I actually play with three fingers on the back and so you can spin this way. You can go top spin, back spin, which is top spin, or you can chop it, which puts kinda like a like basically like a chop shot with the underspin. Hey, but spin the reason why I do so much is it's really hard to when I spin the ball at you, it's gonna jump off your paddle. You don't know where it's gonna go. So that's kind of the the the reason why you want to do spin.

I I don't even know how to have a grip. So, I'm just gonna grip the paddle and see what happens.

You're like, I do basketball, not ping-pong.

exactly. That's exactly right.

Any skills translate? Basketball to ping-pong?

I'll let you know. My guess is no, but I'll let you know.

What's your strategy for the game today?

Okay. Um, I'm gonna swing it. Then I'll swing it back. I'll swing it again. And then I'll swing it back. I find the the casual approach always does well. If I convince myself that we don't wanna win, by default, we will. I'm just nervous cause Clayton Kershaw showed up wearing a headband. He's like in full like athletic gear. He's won this event before. His name's on the paddle. Like, I don't think we really have a chance. That's my strategy. To bring out a racket with my face on it. It's a little embarrassing. But no, no, no. I mean you got guys that can play. Every time you come out here, they got guys. Everybody's competitive as much as athletes. So. Let's see what happens.

I'm thinking several wins. I'm thinking we're just gonna dominate. Think I'm just, you know, just gonna Me and Kike just gonna conquer everybody and I mean, that's just it, you know. We'll do it with grace, maybe if I feel like it. We'll, you know, we'll win with dignity, maybe.

Any hockey skills translate to ping-pong skills?

Uh, a little bit. You gotta watch out for the forehand. So. Strategy this year is try not to lose like I did last year. Last year I was eliminated, I think in the second round. I was surprised I got through the first round. And playing with professional athletes is intimidating because, you know, you in this you can't just stand back and let them play. You alternate shots. So I have to hit at least a quarter of the shots.

Now tell me, how do your baseball skills translate to ping-pong?

I guess time shall tell, but in the past not very good. So.

How you gripping the paddle? Anything you got up your sleeve?

No, I'm not that technical. I'm just gonna try to hit the ball over the net. Uh, I'm just gonna go with like the standard like this. Just, I don't know. I'm just gonna hit it. I don't know. I don't know, I just grip it and just the ball hits to me, I hit it back. That's it. Just like baseball. Ball's thrown at you, you swing, try to hit it. That's it.

You know, behind the back, a little between the legs. More of a trick shot artist. Just don't catch the ping-pong. That's not how you play, okay?

That's right. That's right. Okay.

My biggest plan is not to cry. You know, I think that's that that's the If I if I can get through games with that, you know, yeah, I'll do that.
