We are now in the middle of August, which means Summer is coming to an end, but don’t let it take you by surprise. If you’re like me, you’ve kept fun plans at bay promising yourself that you’ll have time to incorporate some fun Summer plans before it becomes Fall. Well, here’s your warning to take action and start making time in your schedule for a getaway!

 

It can be hard to find the time even in Summer to get away, and even harder to find the space in your budget. But don’t worry, you still have options if you are looking for some lower budget vacation plans to get away from the stress of life. No matter where you are in the U.S, there are fantastic places to visit near you. Here are the best low-cost vacation ideas!

 

1. New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is the place to be if you enjoy a good nightlife. Located in southeast Louisiana, New Orleans is known for its rich culture. Jazz, good food, and drinks are staples, and you’ll never run out of things to do. Bourbon Street and the French Quarter is a must-do if you visit. If a nightlife and drinking atmosphere aren’t for you, there are plenty of museums to visit, such as the New Orleans Museum of Art or the National WWII Museum. Average cost per day: $239.

 

2. Destin, Florida

Traveling to resort-like destinations on the coast are usually outrageously expensive. That's what makes Destin special. Right on the ocean in northwest Florida, you can enjoy sunset dolphin-watching, sandy beaches, snorkeling, or the boardwalks. Nicknamed “The World's Luckiest Fishing Village”, enjoy eating fresh seafood or having the experience of a lifetime if you are into fishing. Average cost per day: $192.

 

3. Put-in-Bay, Ohio

If you’re on a budget and want to experience Island life, look no further than Put-in-Bay. Ohio isn’t really where most people go for a vacation, but if you are on a budget and live nearby, Put-in-Bay is a perfect place to go. It’s an Ohio village on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. You can take a lovely ferry ride to the island and experience cave exploration, golfing, swimming, boat rides, and state parks. Average cost per day: $50-$100.

 

4. Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Who says waterparks are just for kids? Whether you are on a family trip or looking to get away with your partner or friends, everyone can have a great time at a waterpark. There are dozens of great water parks to choose from, as well as tours, sightseeing with wildlife, or visiting theme parks with the best rollercoasters around. Average cost per day: $142.

 

5. Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana

Enjoying nature is a perfect escape during summer. The dunes by Lake Michigan in Indiana are the perfect destination for someone with a budget. It’s very inexpensive to get into the beach and you can stay all day long. Enjoy access to the beach, biking, camping, fishing, picnics, or even horseback riding. Average cost per day: $25.

 

6. Washington, DC

Use your Summer plans to visit the U.S capital and take in some historical locations. Enjoy some of the most historic landmarks in the United States. You can go to the Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial, Capitol, White House, war memorials, Mount Vernon, or even visit the National Mall. Many museums are free to get into and will provide you with a full day of activities. Average cost per day: $194.

 

7. Las Vegas, Nevada

If you don’t gamble everything you own, Vegas can be a pretty great low-cost vacation. You can see amazing shows full of the world’s most talented individuals and groups. There are plenty of museum options as well as a stroll down the Vegas Strip. Enjoy the nightlife scene with gorgeous lights and plenty of places to keep yourself occupied. 8. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

If you reside anywhere in the west, seeing the Grand Canyon should be crossed off your bucket list. The views are breathtaking. You can sightsee, go on guided animal spotting tours, go hiking, biking, or go rafting down the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon is great for family-friendly activities as well as a great couple’s vacation. It’s impossible to run out of activities at one of the most gorgeous natural place in the country.
