Stars offer footballer Adrian Peterson support after son's death

American football fans Nathan Followill and Josh Duhamel have taken to Twitter.com to offer their support to Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson as he mourns the death of his young son.

The sportsman's two year old passed away on Friday (11Oct13) following an alleged assault.

Kings of Leon drummer Followill and actor Duhamel were among the first to comment on the tragic story.

The rocker tweeted, "Sending thoughts and prayers to Adrian Peterson. Such a sad story."

The Transformers star added, "I can't even imagine what @AdrianPeterson is going thru right now. My heart is with his family."

Police have arrested Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, who was initially charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant. He is believed to be the boyfriend of Peterson's ex - the mother of the dead child.
