Actresses Scarlett Johansson and Lena Dunham have joined forces to help raise funds for politician Scott Stringer as he campaigns to become the next New York City Controller.

Boardwalk Empire star Bobby Cannavale has also thrown his support behind the Democrat and will join Dunham and Johansson on the host committee for the Young New York event at the Big Apple's Maritime Hotel on 6 August (13).

Johansson is no stranger to Stringer, who currently serves as Manhattan Borough President - The Avengers beauty's brother, Hunter, previously worked for the politician and she helped to rally support for him last year (12), when he attempted to establish a run for New York Mayor.
