Liam Payne helping Bono out with AIDS fundraising push

Written by . Published: November 22 2016

One Direction star Liam Payne has offered to take part in a recording session with a fan to raise funds for Bono's AIDS charity.

The Steal My Girl singer, 23, is one of a number of famous names offering to spend time with those who donate at least $10 to the U2 rocker's RED charity.

Also involved in the charity push, which aims to provide funds to research treatment for those suffering from the disease attacking the immune system, are Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, The Killers, DJ Khaled, Halsey and Neil Patrick Harris.

Those who donate could win the chance to spend time with Liam in the studio, have tea with Julia, or go on a night out with Neil.

Fans can donate for the chance to spend time with their idol from 1 December (16), which is World AIDS day.

In an interview with the Associated Press Bono spoke passionately about his fundraising drive.

"It is a battle now for funding. It's just a street battle, pitch battle, and we have to keep this stuff in the news or literally those people don't get the drugs. It's that simple," he said. "We have to just remind people that America has led the war on this tiny little virus and is winning the war, but it is unthinkable, but it is possible, that if we stall on funding then we start to undo all this good work."

The Killers are also releasing a charity Christmas album for the RED campaign.

Other "experiences" available in the prize draw include a sneak peek at one of U2's private rehearsals, a jet skiing trip with DJ Khaled, and a trip to see Broadway hit Hamilton and meet Javier Munoz, one of its stars.

Late night show host Jimmy Kimmel will give Bono's campaign a push on his show on Tuesday (22Nov16), with Bono, The Killers, Herbie Hancock, DJ Khaled and Halsey set to perform.

Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Neil Patrick Harris and Kristen Bell will also join Jimmy for a chat. Those looking to donate need to go to Omaze.com/RED.
