James Corden to host 2017 Grammy Awards
British funnyman James Corden will host the 2017 Grammy Awards.
James, who took over hosting duties on talk show The Late Late Show in 2015, will present the 59th edition of the ceremony on 12 February (17).
He replaces LL Cool J, who has acted as host for the past five
years of The Recording Academy's annual prizegiving.
"I am truly honored to be hosting the Grammys next year," James
said in statement. "It's the biggest, most prestigious award show
in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an
incredible night."
Despite being a relative newcomer to US television, the 38-year-old
is a veteran awards host, having presided over this year's Tony
Awards and as well as five Brit Awards ceremonies in his native
England.
He has been a hit as the host of The Late Late Show, with Carpool
Karaoke, a segment of the program which sees James sing alongside
celebrities while going for a drive, proving particularly
popular.
The Recording Academy's President/CEO Neil Portnow says, "Thanks to
'Carpool Karaoke,' we've all been on some incredible rides with
James, and The Recording Academy couldn't be more excited to
welcome his passion and enthusiasm for music, both as an
entertainer and a fan, to the Grammy stage on Feb. 12 . He's got
big shoes to fill after the magnificent run we had with LL Cool J,
but James is a commanding, dynamic showman who is perfect to host
the Grammy Awards."
The Grammys will be broadcast live on CBS from Staples Center in
Los Angeles.
