Pop star Katy Perry was overcome with emotion during a visit to the site of Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz on Wednesday (25Feb15).

The Firework hitmaker performed in Krakow, Poland on Tuesday (24Feb15) as part of her ongoing world tour, and she spent her day off on Wednesday visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

She uploaded a picture on Instagram.com of the grounds and added, "My heart was heavy today" before sharing a quote from a plaque commemorating those who died in the camp during the Holocaust in the 1940s.

The note reads, "For ever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity, where the Nazi murdered about one and a half million men, women and children mainly Jews from various countries of Europe."

Perry's Prismatic World Tour will next stop in Vienna, Austria on Thursday (26Feb15).
