Grand jury to decide Flavor Flav's fate in speeding case
Members of a New York grand jury have been tasked with deciding whether hip-hop veteran Flavor Flav should be indicted on traffic and drugs charges following an arrest in January (14).
The Public Enemy star, real name William Drayton, faces a count of speeding and felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after his car was pulled over by police in Long Island, where he was due to attend his mother's funeral.
He was also slapped with a charge of marijuana possession.
Flavor Flav, who has pleaded not guilty to the accusations,
returned to court in Nassau County on Friday (11Jul14), when his
lawyer, Indji Bessim, revealed they had still yet to reach a plea
deal with prosecutors.
She said, "(We are) just not prepared to take a felony plea
today."
The case was subsequently handed over to a grand jury.
The 55-year-old rapper had previously expressed a desire to reach
an agreement with authorities as the frequent flights from his home
in Las Vegas to New York to attend the court hearings were becoming
too costly.
