Concert performance lands Taylor Swift a role in Meryl Streep film

Taylor Swift had no idea she was 'auditioning' for a movie role when she performed in Los Angeles recently.

The country star has just won a part opposite Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges in The Giver, which is currently shooting in South Africa, and she's convinced her stage show won over a casting director.

She tells ABC Radio, "Actually, the movie came about very unexpectedly. When I played my shows in L.A., I was unaware that people from this movie were in the audience, and I had a role offered to me the next week.

"I think my show tends to be very emotional and moody and they saw something that they needed in the role. So, I'm very honoured and lucky to get to be a part of it, and we'll see how it goes."
