Chrissy Teigen's hangover recipe doubles as baby food
Chrissy Teigen is using one of her mother's home recipes to nurse hangovers and feed her baby.
The supermodel and her singer husband John Legend welcomed daughter Luna in April (16), and Teigen, who is a big-time kitchen devil and the author of a cookbook, titled Cravings, reveals there is one particular childhood meal that has been passed down by her mom she has been preparing since becoming a mother herself.
“My mom is Thai and she would always make this hearty, slow-cooked
porridge,” she tells People in their new My Food Story video
series. “It just always smelled like home to me. It was a baby food
for us because it was such a nice rice porridge.”
But over the years Chrissy has discovered the dish, which is known
as Jok Moo, does much more than feed babies.
“Now that I’m not a child eating it, it’s an excellent hangover
meal," she laughs.
The versatile dish can be customised to suit whatever taste one
might be craving at the moment. Chrissy often spices up the
porridge by experimenting with different flavors and meats.
“I loved being able to have control over my own spices and
seasonings,” she details, before reminiscing about what she
experienced as a child while her mom cooked the meal. “I just
remember every piece of pork being so spicy and well seasoned. It
had this ginger aroma filling the house.”
Chrissy's core recipe for her Jok Moo includes ingredients such as
jasmine rice, ground pork, chicken bouillon, garlic cloves, soy
sauce, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, ginger, cilantro,
and scallions.
