Charlie Sheen: 'I had unprotected sex twice and got HIV'
Charlie Sheen has stated he only had unprotected sex twice, which led to him being infected with HIV.
The actor, who went public with his HIV-positive diagnosis in November last year (15), reveals in a new interview that he only engaged in unprotected sex twice because he was "too drunk or too bored" to wear a condom.
When asked by a reporter at British newspaper The Sun how many
times he has had unprotected sex, the 50-year-old replied, "A
couple of times. Twice. And we would be having a different
dialogue.
"I was always the guy that promoted it and said you’ve got to use
condoms, this and that. I was too drunk or too bored one night and
here we are."
The Wall Street star, who once boasted he had slept with more than
700 women, has been celibate for seven months, although not through
choice.
"HIV is not the best pick-up line. So it has happened as a result
of everybody else and myself having the knowledge, and that’s
fine," he explained. "You’d be amazed how much more you can
accomplish and how much more you can learn when you’re not just
trying to have sex.
"I make jokes about the diagnosis because you have to. Otherwise
it’s just ‘awkward city’."
In 2011, at the height of Charlie's wild behavior, he had a public
meltdown and was subsequently dismissed from his lead role in
sitcom Two and a Half Men. That same year, he discovered he was
HIV-positive, though he chose to keep this private for another four
years.
Charlie was criticized when he revealed his diagnosis, but now
feels he has become more famous for his HIV status.
"People say, ‘What does it feel like to be the face of HIV?’," he
shared. "I’m like, ‘Euugh, unintentional’. But if that’s the
reality of it, then so be it."
The actor, who confessed to missing sleeping with women on a
regular basis, is defiant in the face of his health problems and
remains positive when it comes to looking to the future.
"I’ve come back from the ashes a couple of times before," he added.
"Risen. I’ll just have to do it again."
