Carly Rae Jepsen and Geri Halliwell join British Chancellor for tea party
Carly Rae Jepsen, and British singers Geri Halliwell and Jamelia joined the U.K.'s Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne for a special tea party organised for terminally-ill children at his official London residence on Tuesday (11Dec12).
The Chancellor's state rooms at 11 Downing Street were transformed into a Santa's workshop for the afternoon and Osborne played host to 40 children at the event organised by officials from British charity Starlight, which grants wishes to sick children.
Former Spice Girls star Halliwell, Jepsen, and boyband Lawson
joined the youngsters in creating and making festive gifts,
including a cardboard train-shaped money box.
Osborne said, "I am absolutely delighted that I can do what I can
to help and turn my home over for the afternoon to this fantastic
cause."
Actress Emma Samms, Starlight co-founder, added, "We are extremely
grateful to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and his team for
hosting The Starlight Christmas Party for a third year at No 11
Downing Street. It is a very special event, which gives our young
guests the chance to escape their illnesses for an afternoon and
simply have a bit of fun with their families."
Call Me Maybe hitmaker Jepsen later took to her Twitter.com page to
share snaps of her with Santa and a young child sporting tiger
face-paint, alongside the message, "I met a very cute little tiger
today at the Starlight Children's Foundation... Christmas Party at
11 Downing Street with the Starlight Children's Foundation. Look
who I ran into?! Santa!"
