Anne Hathaway opens up about 2013 Oscars dress drama
Actress Anne Hathaway has revealed her most daring fashion choice came on the morning of the 2013 Oscars, when she had to make a last-minute gown switch.
The movie star, who was to win a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award minutes after hitting the red carpet with her husband Adam Shulman, has now revealed all about the dress controversy in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar.
She explains, "I found a dress, like, a month before... It was the
most beautiful, reflective, shimmery dress - rainbows were going to
dance off me."
But when the dress became unavailable, designer Valentino offered
to lend her another look. Reports suggest all was fine until the
eve of the Oscars when Hathaway discovered that her Les Miserables
co-star Amanda Seyfried would be wearing a similar Alexander
McQueen gown.
Hathaway admits she had to make a style change on the morning of
the ceremony, telling the publication that's when she chose the
pale pink Prada outfit: "I was like, 'Wow! I can do this. It's
beautiful. It's appropriate. It's modern. It's minimal'."
But there was one thing she still wasn't sure about: "I look in the
mirror, turn to Adam, and say, 'It looks like my nipples are hard'.
(He said), 'You look beautiful. Your nipples look pointy. The red
carpet's about to close. We gotta go'."
As a result, Hathaway caused a sensation upon arrival at the Oscars
- with her last-minute Prada dress switch story and the gown she
chose, which appeared to spotlight her nipples.
She adds, "Now that you know the back story, that was by far in a
way the most daring dress I have ever worn. It maybe didn't look
it, but that was it."
