Amber Heard's deposition delayed by a day
Amber Heard's lawyers have postponed her deposition until Saturday (13Aug16) after missing Friday's (12Aug16) hearing due to an undisclosed emergency.
The actress, 30, had been due to fly back from London, where she is filming Justice League, to answer questions about her ongoing divorce from 53-year-old Johnny Depp, who she has accused of domestic abuse.
Friday's meeting was scheduled after Heard failed to give evidence
during a planned session last weekend (06Aug16), when she was
accused of arriving late and then reportedly refused to leave an
office next to the deposition room, where she was allegedly seen
crying and screaming by Depp's attorney Laura Wasser.
On Friday, Amber's lawyers Samantha Spector and Joseph Koenig filed
court documents in Los Angeles asking a judge to grant the
deposition postponement, stating, "To no fault of her own, Amber
was unable to arrange for a flight to travel from London to Los
Angeles which would arrive in Los Angeles by 10 a.m. on Friday
August 12, 2016 so that she could appear for deposition on that
date and time."
They did not provide specific details as to the cause of the delay,
but went on to blast Depp's team for claiming the actress displayed
erratic behaviour last week, allegations they have declared
"categorically false", according to People.com.
They insist Amber has "at all times" been "ready" to be deposed,
and remark: "It is a disturbing shame that Johnny's lawyers
continue to pursue a relentless personal attack against Amber."
Friday's filing also includes email correspondence between the two
legal representatives about a settlement proposal, which was
submitted to Depp's team on Thursday (11Aug16) for review.
Depp, who has been on vacation, is also due to testify about the
broken marriage on Saturday (13Aug16), before the case goes to
trial. His lawyer has previously denied the abuse allegations,
accusing Heard of making up the claims to secure a bigger financial
settlement after filing for divorce to end their 15-month marriage
in May (16).
She subsequently obtained a restraining order against her estranged
husband, which was extended on Tuesday (09Aug16) until their next
hearing on 17 August (16).
