Drake Bell's Honest About Why He Loves Shawn Mendes

What is going on, guys? Nicole Cotch in the Young Hollywood studio, hanging out with Drake Bell. Before we start, I do have to say that this is super fun for me and exciting, because I grew up watching you sing on television. You know, Drake & Josh, The Amanda Show, and I now just got a live performance of "Honest" with your new EP, Honest. So, let's talk about that. That's amazing.

Um, yeah, it's really exciting. This is a whole new adventure, I guess. It's a it's a completely different style of music I've ever then I've ever recorded before, and the last record I made was a total cover album of songs I grew up on and loved, and I got to work with my idol, Brian Setzer, who's my favorite guitar player, and it was a lot of fun, but the fans were kind of like, "Well, where's your music?" you know? "We we want to hear your songs."

Yeah. The titles of on your EP, by the way, I think are super interesting, and I have them here. So, it's "Leaves," "Honest," "Runaway," and "Rewind." Mm-hm. So, I want to know what kind of stories are you trying to tell with those specifically, because I feel like they're really simple, but they're also really powerful words.

I like things being simple. I like the one-word kind of names of titles and I don't know if I'm trying to say anything specifically with just the titles, but "Leaves" is a song about how long is it going to take for this person to notice me or what do I have to do? How many waves are going to crash until she calls me? How many leaves are going to fall to the ground until you know, my phone even makes a sound and you talk to me? And "Honest" is basically what it says. It's, you know, I I I'm being honest with you, the least you could do is is be honest with me. Even if it's not going to be the outcome that that you want, you just at least have to be honest with each other. At least I'm honest. At least I'm honest. I want to love you, but your heart can't be promised. You're un- I won't need, at least I'm honest. We could be together, just keep your promise, baby. At least be honest.

Also, I was lurking your Twitter recently, and I know that you like to talk about Shawn Mendes quite a bit, and here at Young Hollywood, we love some Shawn Mendes, so

Yeah, I mean I I would love to collab with him. I heard his songs and I really dug 'em, and then I started watching stuff of him and and his personality and everything is just He seems like such a genuine, nice, cool dude, you know what I mean? Yeah. It's awesome. And he's got cool tattoos, so, you know.

Speaking of tattoos, though, I see this one here. Mm-hm. "War's over." And you have other ones, too, right? Cuz you recently did a photo shoot where you were completely shirtless.

I have a lot. I have a lot.

Yeah, I I was like, Yeah. We saw all your tattoos.

Um, yeah, I have about 20.

You have 20 tattoos?

I think. It's the last time I counted, yeah, 20. You lose you lose count cuz sometimes they just You wake up and you're like, "When did I do that?" "Oh, yeah, cool." Yeah.

That is amazing. So, I'm sure it's probably hard like you had to choose your favorite one. But I'm going to make you choose.
