Now, we've watched you grow up. And now you get to reintroduce yourself as this with the heartbreak. But how was it five years old performing in Oliver? How was that like at a young age, you knew, I want to be a performer. This is meant for me.

Asher Angel

I just always knew from the beginning. Like even the stories that my parents still tell me to this day is me running around the house 24/7, just obnoxiously singing in everyone's face, you know, trying to put on a show, trying to be the main character all the time. Like I just loved uh, I've just loved the arts. And so getting to grow up and I mean, the musical theater environment. I mean, that was my like that was that was like my parents' Sunday at the baseball field. Like coming to see me every Sunday. I was doing like two shows back to back. Uh, all the way across town. Like, I just, I loved it. And then we were talking like a couple minutes ago before this interview started. Like, would you ever go back? Would you do Broadway and yeah, those are my roots, so I would love to. Yeah, it was a great experience.

Young Hollywood

What's a Broadway role you would love to play?

Asher Angel

I've said this since I saw the show. I would love to play Pippin. I think it'd be iconic. I still joke with my mom about it to this day. I'm like, hey, Pippin would be amazing. So.

Young Hollywood

With the new music now and your parents, is it hard for them? Cuz you're still so young, to have you go through that heartbreak and then share it with the world. Do you know what I mean?

Asher Angel

Yeah, I think it's hard for any parent. Like my mom was amazing through my experience, both my parents. And it's also hard because it's like they love you so much and they don't want to see you hurt. So then like me like knowing that like, oh, I'm going through a difficult time, but then it's making my mom sad. So it affects everyone around me. Luckily, I have such a loving, caring family who's supported me since day one. And even now that I'm looking back on it, I'm like, oh god, I I mean, she essentially went through it too with me. So, love you, mom. Love you, parents. Love you all very much. So, I'm very thankful for them.

Young Hollywood

Are you ready now to Are you Are we dating? Are we looking around? Are we are we healed and able to be like, okay, learn from this experience. And now I'm just going with whatever life throws at me.

Asher Angel

Yeah, like I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Young Hollywood

What has it been throwing at you?

Asher Angel

But I know it's going to be a good day. I don't know. Like I'm focused on work right now. Like I'm super heavily invested in my art and just trying to elevate as much as I can as a person and as an artist and spend time with my family. I'm not really looking for anything. I mean, something happens, it happens, but I'm just very focused on my career.

Young Hollywood

Nice. What's on your playlist? Right now?

Asher Angel

Yeah. Oh my God. Hudson Westbrook, like I said, Halsey, yeah, who else have I been listening to a lot? Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, Um, who else is on my playlist? Like Riley Green. I love Luke Combs. My guy, Stapleton. I know, I'm going to keep going. Chris Stapleton. He's my favorite artist. One of my favorite artists of all time.

Young Hollywood

And now acting, we talked about Broadway. Pippin would be the dream role. How about just for any TV, movies, anything else you want to sink your teeth into?

Asher Angel

I would love to do some sort of biopic. Yeah. I want something where I can, like you said, really stick my teeth into it. Play someone who's just the complete opposite of me. Like I love acting. Like I've and like most of the roles I played, I feel like I haven't really been able to challenge myself and I want something like that where I can challenge myself. Um, and I think a biopic's probably the perfect role for that. Um, maybe like a young Frank Sinatra. I don't know.

Young Hollywood

Is that a big influence for you?

Asher Angel

Love Frank Sinatra. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

What's the song? Come on now. Don't make me get up and do it. Do it.

Asher Angel

It's hard to tell. It's hard to tell. I don't know if I'd make a good Frank Sinatra. I mean, I think I could have done Elvis, but Austin Butler was phenomenal as well. So.

Young Hollywood

Let him have it.

Asher Angel

I think I could I could I could have done Elvis. I don't know if the chats probably be like, this guy. No, but Elvis would have been amazing. Yeah. I'd take Elvis actually over Frank.

Young Hollywood

Over Frank. Yeah. You have a strong facial resemblance to Elvis.

Asher Angel

You think so?

Young Hollywood

Yeah, you do.

Asher Angel

Really? Look right at that camera. No, that's just a major compliment.

Young Hollywood

That's what I was going to say. You look a lot like him. No, you do. We both do. We both do. We could be brothers on occasion. We could we could know. I could be your father though. For real, though. I could.

Asher Angel

I knew that was coming.

Young Hollywood

Or uncle. Like you're like my cool uncle. The cool one, yeah. You seem old soul. You seem so put together. You're super young still. Growing up in the industry. You know, we've seen the documentaries. There's been a dark side. How did you maintain this sense of self and not to sort of go down any, you know, bad sort of rabbit holes?

Asher Angel

100% credited to my family. Going in, I mean, my parents have been on every set since day one. You know, no matter how old I am, I don't care if I'm 22 years old. Like I want my family everywhere with me because we started this. I was younger and you know, my goal is to make this a family business. So I mean, I had no problem with it. Like I was raised pretty well and my parents have always been around me since the beginning. So I was always fine, luckily. Cuz it is scary and I've had I've definitely had friends that have had different experiences than me, but luckily I've had a great support system since day one. So very thankful for that.

Young Hollywood

And it seems your passion has only grown stronger. You knew this was for you. We're still on the journey. This little kid, he always he always knew what he was going to do.

Asher Angel

And in my yearbook, it's funny that you said that. Like I remember a couple years back, I saw on Instagram, someone tagged me in like um, just in my tags and it was just an old picture of me in a yearbook and I and I what did I say? I was like, one day I'm going to be the star in a movie or something or one day I'm going to be in a movie. And like I look back at that now. I'm like, wow, that's that's really freaking cool. And it's true.

Young Hollywood

For anyone going through a heartbreak, um, or doing that grieving of letting go of any situation, not even just love, but like job, something we just have to let go. How would you say you were able to process or make make it over the hump?

Asher Angel

I think time for me, time heals a lot. Yeah, I think it's just time. Like and waking up every day and it may not be a good day, but just being able to push through and no matter how big of an event it could be or or whatever, you just got to keep pushing forward. Full speed, full momentum ahead. You'll be fine. It's going to suck, but you'll be fine.

Young Hollywood

What doesn't suck? This is the interview with you right now at Young Hollywood. It's a vibe. Alternate ending is out now. Check it out. The music video is stunning. It's beautiful. You must see it. And we wait for new music. Cash Angel. Thank you so much.

Asher Angel

Hey, take care.

Young Hollywood
