I'm Oliver Trevena here at the Young Hollywood studio with this handsome man, Wayne Brady.
How are you?
Well, thank you very much, Mr. Oliver.
What was a nickname that you just gave yourself?
Um, Black Sack.
Black Sack.
So Wayne Brady, aka Black Sack.
But with no frame of reference for who's like, "What the hell? Black Sack?"
Yeah, just Black Sack.
It's an inside joke and it's gonna stay that way.
Yeah, we're not gonna tell you.
Um, hosting Let's Make a Deal at the moment.
Um, very interesting show.
Lots of uh, a lot of characters that you know, on there.
Yes.
That's your very polite British way of saying, look at those crazy ass people.
Yes.
Dressed up and screaming.
Yeah.
Um, I I affectionately call them weirdos and freaks.
Okay.
Um, and I even say that on the show.
Because the thing is you can't ignore it.
And the thing is I'm not Monty Hall.
This isn't the 60s or the 70s where I have to come out and and be and be incredibly polite and ignore the fact that there's a guy dressed like a barbarian or a guy dressed like a Twinkie.
These people get up at 6:00 a. m.
Uh-huh.
They stand outside of the lot and in a line stretched around the street.
All with the hopes that if they yell my name or say something loud enough or dress in some incredibly uh inappropriate way for normal society, I will then go, "You! Let's make a deal."
Who's the craziest person you've ever had?
If you could recall one costume or weirdo or freak.
I I could.
Every show there's at least one person that I that I go the hell.
And sometimes they're not even the people that make it on camera.
I'll be doing a deal with someone and I'll see a girl sitting over on that side of the audience who in her mind, if she wears the sexy French maid outfit with the crotch cut out and bunny ears and blinking arrows.
Wayne's gonna pick me.
To which I go, "Baby, this is CBS daytime."
Really?
See, that's where me and you are different.
Because if I was hosting the show, it would constantly just be girls in maid outfits, bunnies coming up and winning cars.
But they wouldn't never get on the show.
Okay.
Because then they would be dressed.
They'd be on my show.
Yes.
See, that's the differential that I am going to shoot later, so maybe you and I can talk.
Maybe we could.
To be Young Hollywood.
Yes.
And then Wayne's Wayne's uh, mate.
Wayne's mate.
Wayne's mate.
I think we have a show.
That's it.
What can we play now?
From your making up of you want any games that we could play on the spot?
Yeah, anybody want to do a game?
Yeah, let's do it.
All right, we will do one called one word at a time story.
Okay.
So we're just gonna tell a story going back and forth, one word at a time as fast as we can and try to make it make sense.
Okay.
What's this story about, someone?
Come on, come on, give us a story.
Oh, it's about that very specific theme of love.
Okay, ready?
I love.
Love.
And sometimes it can be a pain in my arse.
And also when I am in love, then I get a pain in my head.
Which can lead to imprisonment or strangulation or deceased and also loneliness.
And that is all about love, folks.
So love can drive you to jail, it can cut off your air supply and make you lonely.
And die.
I can't wait to be in love again.
That game was actually very factual.
This is a good partnership.
I think we should just carry it on this thing and we could be like, I don't know, multi-billionaires.
So, so you can be my new partner.
Talking about partners and you know, stuff like that.
Did you use to work as Tigger at Disneyland?
Is that right?
I knew I saw you.
That's where I That was an incredible segue.
Okay.
But but but partners and Tigger.
Yes, I did.
When I was 16, I was Tigger and Goofy, um, who else was I?
Captain Hook sometimes at uh Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, which is where I'm from.
Okay.
And it was great improvisational training.
Hold on.
Let me tell you for a minute when I give you a clue I'm gonna jump right in it.
I make this rhyme come from my soul.
Put some spicy food on it cuz I love Creole.
So that's when your improv skills get really good because a, you're trying to to entertain the people and you're also trying to keep cool.
You've done the hosting, you've done the acting, then you've had a Grammy nomination as well.
Yes, I have.
Yes, I have.
Um, any any desires to bring out another album or?
Actually, I've got a Disney album.
It's basically a kids album, but things that we would listen to coded as the kids songs.
So everybody can enjoy it.
So soon, I may be like my own Wiggle.
That little plug.
See.
And it's so subtle and natural.
Look out for you.
And and I was Tigger when I was 16.
Oh yeah.
Yes, I was.
Now put that in there as well.
Thank you.
Tigger come from Black Sack to Tigger.
In the space in the space of an interview.
Completely natural.
Black Sack to Tigger.
To Tigger.
That's the punchline for this.
