Making a Deal with Wayne Brady

This very nice. I've nailed it. He's got it. Welcome to Young Hollywood. I'm Oliver Trevena here with Young Hollywood at Let's Make a Deal set with the man himself, Wayne Brady. How are you?

How are you doing, Oliver?

Good. Good to see you again. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. We had a great time, when I say we I mean the royal we.

Exactly. Exactly.

It happened last time and it was amazing. What was the nickname that you just gave yourself?

Um, Black Sack.

Black Sack. So, Wayne Brady, a. k. a. Black Sack. That's his name.

Yes. See but with no frame of reference, folks, are like, "What the hell? Black Sack?" Yeah. Yeah, just Black Sack. It's an inside joke and it's gonna stay that way.

Yeah. I had such a great time. So thanks for coming into my world now into the world of people dressed up as gingerbread houses and Superman and donuts. But how do you pick the people then? You just randomly, cuz there's you and Jonathan, right?

It's based on the costume, the enthusiasm, but we also explain to the audience that that while they're they're here, they're being watched by the producers backstage. Right. And they also go through an interview process, a very quick one. And so we try to pick the people who are the most enthusiastic, the people that want to be there the most, the people that will give you the best TV.

What's the strangest person that's been I'm looking around these people leaving and it's mental.

The strangest thing is when they dress up, uh even like uh when a guy will come dressed in a French maid's outfit with half his butt showing and all his goodies hanging.

Similar to me at the weekend.

Yes. But at least you do yours privately. When they come on the show, they expect to get on CBS daytime, but I can't put them on TV. They have to blur everything. Right.

What's the most you've ever given away on the show?

Oh man. You've had quite quite a lot of deals during the big deals where they've given away in one fell swoop, maybe a boat and a trip and $10,000 in cash, and that equals a deal that's worth $35,000 or something. And then cash-wise, um, I think the most I've given away in someone's hand is maybe $5,500.

I'm in the wrong seat. I should be in them seats over there.

You should be in that seat. You might as well see me. And then you should be dressed as a cute fuzzy koala or something that I can't see your face.

With Jonathan Mangum. How are you?

Good, doing great. How are you?

Good, I was watching you do your thing out there. I'm still alive. He just can't stay out the spotlight, can he?

No. No, he did the same thing at my show. This This was Jonathan's moment. Got. I see what you have to put up with now.

All day. All day. Come to my house and does that.

One of the stagehands walking by. He made contact. That one made contact.

What's the best outfit you've seen and what's the worst you've seen?

There was a pickle yesterday, but it was like, not it was like a it was The dude was probably 5 foot tall, but the pickle made him 9 foot tall. And he had sewn on the giant pickle appendages and the pickle nose and pickle eyes, and it was a it was a creepy yet admirable pickle.

Okay. Which uh Pickle Man.

Pickle Man, you're Jonathan's favorite. A way to his heart is through a pickle.

I wouldn't I wouldn't I wouldn't say that.

Did you know Wayne before you uh came to the show?

Yeah, Wayne and I started doing comedy together a long time ago in Orlando, Florida. Started doing improv together and been doing improv for almost 20 years now together.

And when you got the call to uh you got the call to obviously come come on here, were you a fan of the original? How would you say it was different from uh from uh the years gone by?

Well, you know, the old one was um great in its own respect, but it was kinda casual, laid back. And Monty was a great dealer, and it was, you know, just, "Hey, it's this or that or deals," and it was it was fine. This is uh this is crazy. This is we just it's it's crazy. The people are crazier. It's a crazier time. Um, Wayne will just start singing or rapping or dancing. I mean, it really can go in any direction based on Wayne's whim. It's it's not a controlled situation. It's Wayne's brain exploding. And then also this

That must keep you on your toes.

Uh, yes. And if not, he'll break my neck.

Right. As we've seen. As we've seen, he's got a very violent streak in him. How'd you get to become the model on Let's Make a Deal?

I've been a dancer my whole life. I was dancing in shows in Vegas, and I went to the audition cuz we originally started taping in Las Vegas. And I just went further in the audition process and ended up getting on the show.

Did you take like a class to do your No, I don't know what that's called. The presentation. Presenting.

No, I never took a class, but dance lessons definitely help with that, I think.

Can you can you show me? Can you show me how to do it?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Got you. There we go. All right. So we stand hands on hips usually, like that. Yes. And you bevel your foot. There you go. That's the start position.

Yeah, I'm the understudy. Don't think I'll look quite good as good in them that skirt. My legs are got a tad more hair.

Any funny stories of Wayne on the road you guys have had? Or funny stories from here, in fact?

I mean, Wayne is a pretty straight-ahead kind of guy. It's more uh his uh nerdy side that comes out. Like, you know, we'll be, you know, touring in Vegas or something and where most people are going to a club or something, Wayne will rent six computers and some guy to come in and hook up a network and have a full-blown, you know, video game setup going with all kinds of, you know,

Look at that. I I didn't expect that.
