It's great to have you here.
Thanks.
You look fantastic. Unbelievable. The jewelry, the whole thing. We actually just had Ashley here a couple months ago and she talked about you in the interview because I said to her she had the best nail art ever.
Hey, and I'm her inspiration.
She said you were her inspiration. And I love your nails now.
Yeah, my nails are basic now. I'm like went classy, just the red, but normally they're pretty out of control.
So the frozen ground, I know you you've talked in the past about how you you constantly reinvent yourself as a person. I think fashion-wise sort of across the board as an actress. How is this a fresh take on the Vanessa that we've seen before in other roles?
I can't get these on. Eight girls in the last two years. There's not one lead except her. She got away. It's intense. I mean, it's a completely different character. It's based on a real person, um, which added a whole other level of intimacy that I got to share with my character and, um, it's it's it's intense.
I know you met her and you spent time with her. And she's this is the real-life story of a serial killer. Why don't you just start at the beginning?
He brought me to his place. He told her his dead. It was a horrible detention.
How in in life, how did she manage to escape from the from the guy?
Um, I mean, exactly as she as I explain it in the movie, um, he is about to take her out to the middle of nowhere, set her free so that he can hunt her down as he did with all the other young women. And, um, she mustered up enough courage to find a moment that she had where he wasn't looking, and she hopped out of his car and ran across the street and and um, came into this hotel screaming and crying. And then her pimp came and the police came, the real her real pimp came in the movie, 50 Cent.
I know, which is so funny because the entire time we were filming, I could not stop going. He's my. What are you into right now? What are you listening to right now?
Um, I'm obsessed with Disclosure and like Alt-J and I always listen to Radiohead and like Flying Lotus I love and The Beatles I always listen to.
What would you, what advice, because you have so many fans and you're at like how many? 2. 2 million followers. That's crazy. Yeah. What advice would you give to to girls sort of who maybe have either self-esteem issues or, you know, just aren't in the place they want to be at and sort of look up to you?
Um, I would say block out what other people are saying to you. And I mean, it's one thing if it's positive feedback and like someone's trying to inspire you. Um, but just look inwards and ask yourself, what is it that you need in your life to make you feel better about your current, um, circumstance? And and act on it. Like don't don't be lazy.
And I know even in this role when I saw the trailer, I almost didn't recognize you. I mean, I know physically you transform but it's almost like your expressions and everything.
Yeah. I'm 18 now. I I was 17 at the time. And then working and then also, when you did get on set and you're working opposite John who was so deep into his character as well.
I'll tell you what. It can't because it never started. I didn't shoot anybody. I don't know.
I mean, it was definitely an uncensored character. And, um, like I I wasn't thinking about the way that I looked. Um, I tried to make myself look as like grungy and and down and out as possible.
The DVD for Spring Breakers just came out. Uh-huh. And I think we were supposed to interview you at South by but you were, I think you were sick at the time.
Yeah, I was really sick.
The interviewed the rest of the cast. Um, you know, do you watch yourself? Like do you do you go back and watch yourself? Do you hard to watch yourself?
I'm not like go out of my way to watch myself. I'm on tonight. I'm on TV. Like, let's tune in. Watch myself 7:00 p. m. No, that doesn't happen. But like when I'm when I'm at a premiere, I'll watch the movie. Like if I'm with my friends or my family. It's nice to see the audience's reaction as well.
Cuz you've also said you're very spontaneous. What's like the most spontaneous thing that you've done? Like have you done like the sky, are you like the adventurous, like the skydiving are you like that girl that really
Yeah. Yeah. I I we drove down to like the border of San Diego, right by Tijuana and uh, went out to this skydiving spot and uh, we were the last jump of the day and it was so funny because I thought we were going to go earlier and so I chugged a Red Bull and I was like, it gives you wings. You know, that whole thing. Um.
You could be a spokesperson for that. Yeah. So I think a lot of your fans, they love you and Ashley and your friendship and you guys are so great about like tweeting pictures and doing all that thing. What's sort of like a perfect day out with you and her? And I think it's great in Hollywood too that you sort of support each other, that it's two women that support each other.
Um, I mean, we both love working out. Um, so we'll like go and take a spin class and then maybe like go grab breakfast and then like go our separate ways. Like get done up again. And uh, like go to the mall and go shopping or something. Or like taking dance class we we do together sometime.
Oh, we need to talk about twerking. This was on your Twitter. Was it twerk Tuesday or something like that? Is that is there twerking involved in the dancing?
Yeah. I mean, it's not dancing if I'm not twerking.
I will I would never make you twerk. I don't even know. I cannot twerk. I don't know what it is. My body just won't do it.
It's honestly like if you're shaking your butt, you're basically twerking. Like everyone has her own style. Like I I don't have the big enough butt to like make it go like that and like flap cuz some chicks do that, you know. It's like It's really impressive. I'm not there yet. Um, but I try.
You got to be nice. Thank you for coming in. This is such a pleasure. I want your outfit from head to toe.
You should buy it.
Really? You shouldn't have told me that.
